We bought this for our son's 5th birthday and he loves it! Pros: The kit items are packaged extremely well and the instructions are clear for each experiment (102 total). Each experiment has an explanation for the "why?" child, which is great! The kit includes nearly everything needed for all of the experiments (test tubes (and holder), beakers, droppers, red cabbage, etc.). Cons: We've only done 1 experiment with the kids so far (pictured: crystal growing tree), but have reviewed the book of experiments. We also read reviews before purchasing the kit that stated that everything was included except a few household staples like water, dish soap, paper towels, etc. That said, this is the reason for giving only four stars. While most of the items that need to be "self prepared" are common in almost every household, there are also several that are not (i.e. a peanut, paper cups, a transparent plastic cup, and play-doh). In reference to the play-doh, one of the experiments is to make homemade play-doh, so that one can slide. The one that really tipped the star deduction was iodine or an iodine cotton piece. While this might be common in the home of medical personnel or a farming/ranching family, it's not common enough to have been left out of the kit (in our opinion). Overall, this kit is really neat and I would still recommend it. I would also suggest to the seller that a small bottle of iodine be added to the kit. ... show more

5 STARS from someone who doesn't always post good reviews. This is a perfect science kit for 3 years old and up. My grandson is 3 1/2 and he was able to do these experiments with very little help except for the instructions. I let him do most of the measuring and pouring, screwing the lids on and off, stirring the mixtures, etc. He is practicing coordination and learning about mixing colours and different elements, etc. It's truly wonderful. At the risk of these photos ending up on Facebook's "Messy Rooms Where You Zoom in to See the Background (yes, this is a thing), I am posting three of the first experiments we've done. There one thing to be careful of is the soap making. The miles are small and the soap looks like candy. My grandson almost ate one thinking it was a gummy. Could be a choking hazard as well.
