This is my first overlocker / serger. I had to read the manual to get the stitch tension dialed in but after that, it has been accurate and reliable. My first projects were edging fleece blankets and flannel cloths, which the machine handled equally well without further adjustments. I have made a pair of flannel PJ shorts constructed mostly with this machine (minus hems and waistband). The machine comes pre-threaded with sample spools of white thread. Tie on the new thread and gently PULL through. If you try to sew with the knots, the thread will snap. Rethreading this machine is complicated and frustrating. The instructions are not clear as to where to thread under the machine for lower looper and you need to watch a video to understand it. Product comes with DVD instructions but who has a DVD player these days? I would like to see the video on the Janome website or YouTube instead. ... show more

Serger that you can use straight out of box! Sturdy built easy tutorials on YouTube to rethread and maintain. Buy the monthly Amazon insurance to cover products you purchase from Amazon and then you’ll tend to not worry about the “what if’s…” if the YouTube tutorials fails to remedy the issues.

    • wish to have a function for narrow sewing

Well, bought after comparing different brands and reading reviews. The machine is easy to use; and it is not hard to thread. The main issues I have are (1) don't know how to read the guidelines on the machine. The manual does not say anything about that; (2) no function for sewing narrow area. You can open the box on the left for threading or function adjustment, but it is not for sewing narrow area like sleeves. Overall, I think it is a nice economic machine for home sewing. I absolutely LOVE this machine!! Is slightly intimidating to retread, but comes with a terrific DVD tutorial that guides you write through the process! Might as well remove the thread that comes with it, it's super cheap and breaks easily. Showed it off to my 90 year old professional seamstress Great-Aunt and she couldn't believe the capabilities it had for the price and how nicely it sewed. I made 3 skirts and a pillow in the first few days after purchase! Absolutely love!!! ... show more

This is a nice little serger. It does take a while to learn to thread it, but once it is threaded, you can just feed new colors through it. It sews great.
