Top Amazon Reviews

  • Pretty good noise isolation, but a bit overpriced
Color: Orange
I'm one of those people who says "I rarely write reviews, but this time I just had to..." Mostly because this product is looking for a niche consumer and there aren't that many reviews available, I thought I'd try to help out my fellow Amazon shoppers and silence lovers. I've purchased a lot of earbuds these last few years looking for several features: a) high quality construction, b) sound isolation or noise cancellation, c) wireless, d) in-ear, e) long-term comfort, and f) usable while exercising. I'm not an audiophile, so I wasn't too concerned with quality of music playback. I can't tell the difference between high end and low end earphones, and half the time I'm listening to an audiobook or podcast anyway. I've purchased everything from the Anker SoundBuds NB10 for $28 (which I really like) to $250 Bose QC20 (which I also really like), along with some other random earbuds like Jaybirds, some ELWN Fits and a few others. I also wear earplugs a lot, since I crave silence. I've purchased numerous brands of earplugs over the years looking for the best. Both because I need quiet for studying and sleeping, and I ride a motorcycle and use earplugs when I ride to protect my hearing. (Current favorites: Howard Leight LL1 Laser Lite for studying and motorcycle, and Flents Quiet Time Soft Comfort for sleeping.) The things I like about the Anker SoundBuds NB10, which until recently had been my go-to headphones for the gym are: 1) very comfortable, 2) pretty good battery life, 3) feels high quality for a very good price (I think Anker makes good products in general). They worked pretty well in the gym, but lacked one major feature: sound isolation. My goal has been to find some earbuds that will block out the bad music at the gym so I can work out while listening to my own music or an audiobook, and while I think the Ankers are excellent for the price overall, they don't block out much sound. At the other end of the spectrum, my Bose QC20s are very high quality and very comfortable. The noise cancellation is excellent, as Bose is known for their noise cancelling technology. The things I don't like about them are: 1) not wireless, so not very convenient for the gym or if I'm moving around a lot, and 2) noise cancellation works well for lower frequency droning sounds (e.g. airplane noise), but not for blocking out louder and higher frequency sounds like bad music blaring at the gym. So I thought I'd try these ISOtunes in the hope that they'd give me the sound isolation of earplugs in a wireless package. For the most part, they live up to their promise. They provide better sound isolation than any other earbud I've tried. The ear tips are long, like an ear plug, so in order to get proper sound isolation you have roll the tip to compress it, pull up on your auricle, and insert them deep into your ear canal. Because the foam is compromised in order to allow for the speaker, the sound isolation isn't as good as you'd get from a high quality earplug. But it's pretty good. With music playing even at relatively low volume, they are quite good at blocking out background noise. These are not active noise-cancelling earbuds, so sound isolation only comes from passive, physical blocking of the ear canal. So my score for sound isolation is 4/5. As far as comfort, they are just okay. The memory wire that wraps around the top of your ear isn't very comfortable. I understand why it was necessary: in order to get the tips seated deeply into the ear canal, you have to have the freedom to move the earbud around to get it seated properly, then you wrap the memory wire around your ear. And, if you're not used to wearing ear plugs all the time, you might have a little trouble getting used to it. The Anker SoundBuds have an over-ear piece to hold them in place that is super comfortable, so I'm a bit disappointed in the comfort level of these ISOtunes. They're fine for an hour at the gym, but I suspect I'd get sore spots on my ears if I tried to wear them for several hours. Score: 3/5. One final, major issue is the price. I think they are overpriced for the quality of the materials. The Anker SoundBuds actually feel higher quality, and if they provided better sound isolation, I'd far prefer them for comfort and quality. So for $90, I expected higher-quality product. They don't feel super cheap, but they seem overpriced for what they are. I suspect the company is relying on having a niche product that people are willing to (over)pay for because they're unique. I think $30-$40 would be a much more reasonable price. Battery life is good. Sound quality is fine, but again, I'm not an audiophile. I don't notice any sound delay when watching a video, as I've had with other bluetooth earbuds. Overall, they do a pretty good job at isolating background noise at the gym. Better than any other wireless earbud I've tried. But the high price for middle-of-the-road quality, combined with the memory wire being somewhat uncomfortable prevents me from giving these a higher rating. If you're looking for wireless sound-isolating earbuds, these are the best I've found, but they're not fantastic. I hope the next generation improves quality and comfort, and lowers the price to be more comparable with other earbuds. ... show more

  • Sound quality/volume just a bit lacking, I suppose it has to be to keep the "saftey" up.
Color: Orange
Sound quality/volume is ok, just not quite "there". Those times when you really need to jam and get your head right, it's like you 'almost' get what you need. I am a tree climber, and music helps me keep from getting distracted from the dangerous nature of my job. Having a good set of headphones to be able to keep my head in the game is very important to me. THESE HAVE NOT BEEN BAD BY ANY MEANS, don't want to give off the vibe that they are- simply that I bought these due to the last brand I used having shorter lifespan than a "heavier duty" name brand probably should. After getting my 3rd pair replaced and then the company would not stand behind them anymore (due to mostly electrical failure that was caused by what the product advertised itself as it should have been able to handle) I decided to see what else is out there. The sound quality on my last brand was phenomenal, so that's where I'm coming from here, the ISO tunes just fall a bit short there... I will say that their ear protection is quite nice, but it comes at a few minor costs... First I've already mentioned (they obviously don't want to market 'super loud ear protecting headphones' for that would be defeating the purpose. I simply feel they should be able to work on the 'ear plug' styles a little bit more to make for a little better seal without having to 'try' so hard to get them just right and then work on the clarity of the sound just a bit more... And of course just more BASS/MID-RANGE/TREBLE, maybe even an equalization application to download and make fine adjustment for personal preference. Second is sometimes they 'leak'- ear protection wiggles loose, difference in ears so one doesn't seal the same as the other, then you push it back in because you NEED the ear protection and unless you apply the perfect amount of pressure, they HURT and then need to be adjusted, and quite often my right side is often 'leaking' and not sealed right. (A different style of plug option seems like the best option, and I've tried the options they have in package, they work ok, just not consistent) Another mild point is, although the over ear wire is very flexible/customizable- if not exactly perfect in it's positioning, they can drive you crazy. I've learned to take a few moments before starting my day and really shaping them properly so they are very comfortable. However, right when you get them perfect-thats usually when someone tries to talk with you about something and that leads to my next point (and after you have to go through the fitment process all over)... Last is kind of a nature of the beast situation... Due to the ear protection factor there is VERY LIMITED ambient pass through sound. This can be nice when in a loud environment you want to knock down a lot, but if you NEED to be able to communicate, these will make you struggle to hear your partners in that same environment, therefore just pulling out the protection to complete conversation, defeating the purpose all together. My last brand was NOT claiming to be ear protection, but they did seal quite nicely and had ambient pass through port holes and did reduce volume a decent amount, but still allowed you to hear conversation pretty well in most cases. Sort of a 'Give or take' kinda area really, just would be nice if a company could work these spaces out then headphones would be like brain massages while you work.... All in all IM HAPPY WITH THESE, but thought the potential was much bigger for them (***hint hint manufacturers*** WHICH I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO PAY A GOOD AMOUNT MORE FOR THOSE DETAILS.) THAT IS WHY I CHOSE 4 STARS, NOT 5... I see a lot of 5 star reviews in the review world these days... Which makes me wonder about people's standards, if you don't ask much of the industry then the industry usually won't give you much. :) Still this would be a very solid 'B+' but not yet an '-A'... It's all good tho ISO Tunes, B'S get degrees! I still got love for ya. ... show more

  • Not noise cancellation so much as noise over-ride
Color: Orange
I wanted to use these to cancel the noise from my lawn mower. They come with several sizes of foam covers as well as a pair of silicon covers. It's very difficult to squish the foam enough to get them into your ear while keeping the wire over your ear, so none of the foam covers worked for me. The silicon ones worked best, but I still had to periodically squish them in deeper as they worked their way out. When they were in deep, I could hear the music, but as they worked their way out, all I heard was mower. The mower was almost as loud as without them. I suppose I could have upped the volume on the music, but that would have risked hearing loss - and protecting hearing is the whole point of noise cancelling devices. Still looking for a good set of noise cancellation ear muffs without radio or music services to put over these, or use instead of these. ... show more

  • Good battery life
Color: Orange
I like the battery life one full charge lasts me 2 full 8 hour shifts listening to music the entire time but it's not as loud as I had hoped which makes sense it's built to prevent hearing damage if it were too loud it would defeat the purpose
