This everything as advertised and more. Paid 1/3rd than what they want at local stores. Super lightweight, quiet and fast cutting. Went through 16” of ice like butter. I let kids ages 8-14 use it with ease. So far I cut 50 holes and still the battery says full charge.

I just used this upstate NY last week, what a pro. To be honest I had concerns of enough drilling power, battery lasting long enough, BUT it worked like a champ. Cut quickly and as many holes as needed over two days with no charge. I highly recommend.

i have only drilled maybe 30 holes with it so far but it cuts a hole quickly. much lighter than a gas unit and i dont have to worry about getting it started or the carborator getting gummed up with bad fuel. nice and quiet too compared to a gas unit. box came damaged but product was ok. i am satisfied with the unit. didnt give it five stars because i dont know if it last for years or not. ... show more

I am instantly happy with this R1 auger. We drilled 11 holes in 20" of ice without any effort. You just stand there and hold it steady. You can even clear the ice without your skimmer. It has a light to see where you're drilling if it's dark. We barely touched the battery after all those holes and the light indicator on the battery showed a full charge. It is a very quiet auger compared to the gas ones. Honestly it wasn't much louder than hand drilling. We stored the battery in our shelter when we weren't using the auger and we put it in our cooler when we were transporting it across the ice because it's not good to leave the battery in the cold. It's kind of heavy but I'm a relatively weak 36 year old woman and I didn't have any difficulty using it or carrying it. It's not too awkward to hold or carry. I didn't hold it steady the same way my father did when he drilled his holes with it but my holes were equally straight so it doesn't matter how you hold it, as long as it works for you. It's a learning curve, of course, but it is very simple to use and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. ... show more

I have been using the Ion R1 8” auger every ice season weekend for 4 years. Lasts all day with the 5Ah battery. We drilled 48 holes of 14” of ice in -10°F air temperature one morning on a single charge. The steel flight is only 4lbs heavier than the ridiculously expensive $600 current generations. This Ion R1 with 5Ah battery, will cut just as well as the latest and greatest, and as fast for $200-$250.00 less…. ... show more

As someone who’s been hand-drilling holes for ten years, I’m really loving this new power auger. I haven’t used it to cut more than 20 holes in an outing yet this year and so far the ice is only around 6”, but with that being said the battery has never dropped below a full charge by the end of the day. It’s also been very cold and I’ve been out for 8 hours plus, and it’s worked great every time. Highly recommend ... show more

This is the was to go, Ion is one of the best in the game. Drilled 25 plus holes(14” thick ice) in one trip and it never lost a bar on the battery indicator. The only thing I don’t like is the rubber battery strap but it’s really not an issue at all. This model has lights which is great for drilling in the shanty. No gas mess or worrying about it starting. Definitely worth having on the sled being it weighs only 23 lbs. ... show more
