Description

Enjoy the freedom of Wi-Fi connectivity for any of your Ethernet enabled devices at home or in the office with IOGEAR's Ethernet-2-WiFi Universal Wireless Adapter. This is the ideal solution for devices that do not have built-in Wi-Fi and is universally compatible with any device with an Ethernet port. Avoid the clutter of cables and connect devices such as HDTVs, game consoles, and Blu-ray players to your Wi-Fi network. Older laptops, A/V receivers, network printers and other Ethernet only devices leave you at the mercy of a hardwired data connection. With IOGEAR's Ethernet-2-WiFi Universal Wireless Adapter, you can breathe new life into your legacy electronics by giving them Wi-Fi capability. Using dual antennas (2T2R), the adapter delivers data rates up to 300Mbps and boasts speeds twice that of IOGEAR's Universal Wireless-N Adapter (GWU627). The increased speed supplies sufficient bandwidth for faster file transfers, music downloads, video streaming, online gaming, and HD multimedia applications. Designed to be thinner and lighter to make applications clean and clutter free, the Ethernet-2-WiFi Adapter is 40% smaller than its predecessor, without having to sacrifice performance. The compact design gives you the freedom to place your home entertainment center practically anywhere and stay connected to your wireless network. No need for power from an outlet, this device is powered by a USB port giving you more freedom to place it anywhere. For instance, the prevalence of USB ports on TV sets allow for simple and fast connection of the Ethernet-2-WiFi Adapter to any USB enabled television using the included USB power cable. Instantly connect to your network with the push of a button. This device supports WEP, WPA, WPA2, TKIP and AES encryption standards to keep your wireless connection safe from intruders.

  • Amazing!
I have a pretty nice "office" set up in my bedroom... big desk, dual monitors and plenty of space for my office phone and desk supplies etc... but I haven't used it once in the 2 years I've been working from home. Instead I work from the living room couch, because I have an internet phone that isn't WiFi capable, ethernet only, and our cable outlet is in the living room. It's terrible for my back, it's distracting (tv, my fiance, cats... lol) all I have for surface space is an awkward side table and my laptop is just that... on my lap, which is bad for it AND for me. I figured I had 2 options: Pay $600 for the Wi-Fi adapter that is made for this particular phone or get an extremely long ethernet cord to run through the entire apartment, into my bedroom. Neither option was appealing enough to do. Then I ordered this device. I had low expectations, nothing seems to work with this phone. I purposely ordered from Amazon because I thought it probably wouldn't work and I'd have to return it. I followed the very simple instructions to connect the device to my WiFi, plugged it into the ethernet port of my phone and boom: it worked! Affordable, effortless setup AND it really works? I know... shocking right. Definitely recommend if you need to use an Ethernet device in a place you otherwise cant! ... show more

  • Works as expected with one small but important instruction issue
Worked perfectly using WPS setup. I used this method because I have other older IOGEAR wifi adapters that look different but work almost exactly the same and I have used them for years. BUT the instructions have one small but important error. It says that after WPS is running on your router "press the WPS button on the" adapter. It should say "press and hold the WPS button on the adapter until the WPS/Reset and Ethernet LEDs turn on and blink" If you just press and release the WPS button normally nothing happens and worse the LEDs are then in the state which indicates pairing is completed. After doing the WPS procedure correctly the unit works perfectly. ... show more

  • Works with Security Camera System
Used to turn ethernet only NVR to wireless. Update the firmware before setting it up! Follow setup instructions in the user manual. Everything works smoothly. The adapter does run hot. Hopefully that won’t cause any issues moving forward.

  • Needs a bit of work to get it going
This device promises to solve a simple problem, and ultimately can be made to deliver, but if you are completely disinterested in engaging with some computer-eze (is that a word? should be) upfront, it's probably best to pick an alternative. First, configuring the device requires - effectively - that you connect your computer to it via an Ethernet cable and turn off wireless on said computer. Then you need to connect to an internal web page that allows you to perform the necessary setup (specifically, finding your WiFi network and (most commonly) entering the password. The manual explains all this fairly well, albeit not exceptionally so. However, even then the stick might not work. It didn't for me. Yes, I have a mesh network (Plume), and yes, they do have fine print telling you it doesn't work with mesh networks which you will likely not discover before you buy, but there isn't any particular reason why it shouldn't work in terms of the WiFi protocol itself. I called tech support and left a message, and then went on Amazon to file a return. But before I hit the confirmation button for that, I decided to give it one last try. Navigating the screens on that internal web page, I found the "upgrade firmware" screen. I figured it was worth a shot. Finding the newest firmware on the manufacturer website, I downloaded it and then installed it on the device. Then I restarted it and pronto - everything started working properly. A day later, tech support did call me back, but by that time, I didn't require their assistance. Still, even with the one-day delay, kudos for trying, many of these device manufacturers don't. Overall, it has a nice small footprint, and once it works, it works well. But be aware that it might take a bit of effort to get there. ... show more

  • Needs a firmware update before it will work, but otherwise is as-expected
These units are shipping needing a firmware update out of the box before you can complete the configuration process in either Chrome or Edge browsers. I did not test Firefox. The unit was obviously made before IE was fully deprecated. A quick google search for the model number and firmware update takes you right to the page on IOGear's site with the one and only firmware update for this unit, which was specifically made to fix the bug that prevents configuration in Chrome or Edge. Once that firmware was applied, the unit took the configuration and started working normally, with no issues. Used this to get my early PS4 to leverage my wireless N network, and it worked fine. Not getting true wireless N speeds, which is likely a mix of PS4 hardware and this device not fully leveraging MIMO, but I saw a 3-4x real-world speed increase, which is fine for the price. ... show more

  • Works great
I did have to update to the latest firmware, so do that first. But once that was done setup was pretty easy and it works as a great stand alone, USB powered, ENet to WiFi adapter.

  • Wouldn't install using Chrome
I had a lot of trouble installing it with Chrome (it didn't). I probably spent more time than I should have performing re-sets and adjusting settings (I've been using security cameras for five years so I'm pretty handy on IP setups. Had I not searched and found that it installs with Internet Explorer (not Edge) right away, I would have been happy. I found the answer in these comments on the AMZN product description page, so I wasn't the only person having trouble. Have to give four stars because of this... ... show more
