Easy to set up and attach to our Bestway 20ftx48in pool. Added the amount of salt based on the gallons in my pool (I measured the actual diameter and depth of my pool to calculate it). Added the filter sand and it’s been smooth sailing since. It flows at a good rate and runs my Intex vacuum well. Cleared up my cloudy water from my old pump quickly and has kept it clear with minimal effort since. I had to backwash frequently the first two weeks, but now it’s once a month or so. Ran a boost cycle and added some stabilizer once I got the chlorine levels where I needed them to be. Hope this keeps running well for years, I’ve loved being able to finally just enjoy my beautiful clear blue pool this summer! ... show more

This is our third year (installed summer 2018) having an intex 15’x4’ above ground pool. We used chlorine and the pump that came with the pool the first year. Changing the filters and using chlorine was not blowing my skirt up. The filters had to be replaced every two weeks minimum, and the chemicals were somewhat challenging to keep balanced. We decided last year to upgrade to a salt water system. I didn’t look at a sand filter due to cost. We bought an upgrade summer 2019 salt water pump, which used the same disposable filters. The pump was adequate, but we still had to skim the water with a net to get out the layer of bugs and bio matter from the trees for about 10-15 minutes before swimming each and every day. To be fair, there are three trees that contribute to the mess. We got the pool ready this year (2020), but the pump would not operate. We knew we had to buy a new one. I do quite a bit of research on most products I purchase, especially a bigger purchase such as this pump. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of saltwater pumps on the market whether its Amazon, Academy, or our local pool suppliers (Nashville). I saw that this pump had adequate reviews but not stellar. I also know that items like this usually receive a few poor reviews because there are too many user variables for product performance consistency. I can say for us, this pump performance exceeds our expectations. My husband installed it April 27, 2020, and said it was somewhat difficult. I can attest to the amount of time it took-approx 1 1/2-2 hours. We had multiple sized connectors due to previously purchasing a second pump, so that was not an issue for us. The power of this pump is noticeably stronger than the previous two pumps we had. See photos. Kind of like a hot tub if you’re up close. This has not been an issue even for our 10m old in her float. The best aspects of this pump are that the water stays much cleaner, no need to skim before each and every swim, no disposable filters, backwashing the sand is a breeze. You can actually see the funk flush out of the sand! Stop backwash when water runs clear. Bam, you’re done. Always less than a minute. I attribute the improved performance because of the type and strength of filtration system. The water stays clear. We do have to shock and use clarifier, but the frequency is much less and will be necessary with any system. I never have to worry about cleaning the surface before putting my baby in the water. HUGE, time saver. That’s pretty impressive considering the trees around the pool. We do run the pump 12hrs/day most days, especially when we swim. I hope this helps anyone considering either switching to a saltwater system or upgrading to sand. This is the way to go. It’s more costly initially, and the sand is an additional cost, but we feel this will save us money in the long run. I believe the sand lasts 5-7 years. ... show more

A month ago, the grade would have been 1 (bad!!), but now its 4 because it keeps my pool water beautiful without intervention from me. After fighting the high salt alarm for a month, my Intex Saltwater System (chlorine generator) has worked flawlessly for 17 consecutive days! My conclusion is that the high salt alarm circuit is faulty (it alarms for the wrong reason) and the electrodes need a break-in period. According to the analysis by the pool supply store my current salt level is higher than it was when the high-salt alarms were going off. I agree with that analysis. I started the salt concentration at the 3000 parts per million that was recommended by Intex and 2 weeks ago shocked the pool with hypochlorite. In the month and a half that I've had this unit I have NOT cleaned the electrodes with vinegar. That didn't help the previous unit so I didn't even try on this one. What has helped most is running the pump at least an hour before starting the chlorine generator, and, during the "break-in period", tricking the high-salt alarm by running fresh water (about 3 gpm) into the skimmer (with pump running) for about 20 minutes before starting the chlorine generator. Another “trick” that seemed to work was turn the chlorine generator off for 36 hours. I set the self-clean cycle to reverse polarity every 6 hours, because my water has calcium hardness is 250 to 300 ppm, Here's my story. May 3rd I started up the chlorine generator (Intex Saltwater System with E.C.O. (Electrocatalytic Oxidation) model ECO5110) on our new Intex 16 foot above the ground pool and set it to do the Boost cycle. It ran for at least 10 and a half hours. The next morning I found it had terminated its cycle early for high salt alarm. After leaving it off for 2 days (while doing initial acid and cyanuric acid additions) it ran successfully for 6 hours, then the following day ran a couple of hours before failing on high-salt alarm. I called Intex and was advised to clean the electrodes with vinegar, which I did. But the unit continued to fail for high-salt every time I tried to start it up. We returned the unit to Amazon and they shipped us another unit. The second unit exhibited similar pattern: it worked well for about two days then started having high-salt alarms, even though the salt content of the pool water had not changed (and was at the Intex recommended concentration). I discovered the run-fresh-water-through-it trick and the leave-it-off-for-a-day trick mentioned above, which would get it to run for a few hours. sometimes as much as 5 or 6 hours, before having another high-salt alarm. Working these tricks we kept our water clean with about 1 ppm chlorine for 4 weeks. The final "cure" came when we were out of town 5 days. We left the pump on a 12 hour per day cycle and left the chlorine generator on a 6 hour/day cycle, but knew the chlorine generator would fail, thus would be on only a few seconds per day. Sure enough, when we returned our pool water was cloudy green and the inside walls of the pool where little slimy. I adjusted the pH and shocked it with sodium hypochlorite a few times until the water was beautiful again – clear, clean and the walls were not slimy anymore. The third day home I started up the chlorine generator and it ran successfully for the set 6 hours. There have been no high-salt alarms since. The pump runs automatically 12 hours a day and the chlorine generator comes on about an hour after the pump starts. At first the chlorine generator was set to run 6 hours a day but for the last 2 weeks it has been running it 9 hours a day to get the chlorine level up to 1 to 2 ppm each day (Daytime temperatures have been in the 90s Fahrenheit). Our pool is only 2500 gallons and this chorine generator claims to treat up to 7500 gallons, so having to run this unit 9 hr/day seems too much. But the water stays beautiful with no chlorine smell or soreness! So, I grade it 4 of 5 – marked way down for the month of nursing through its break-in period, but marked back up because it now keeps our pool water so nice without nursing it at all.
