This stool, unlike many others in its class, comes fully assembled. The stool appears to be solidly built, but time will tell. The stool is well sanded and is ready to stain or paint. The wood has a beautiful grain to it which shows up nicely with a clear finish. Not shown in the advertisement are four chair braces, one for each leg of the stool. These braces are discretely hidden under the bottom of the seat and are not generally visible. One annoying thing the manufacturer does is place three stickers on the underside of the stool which are challenging to remove. If these are not carefully removed they can interfere with the finishing process. ... show more

It's hard to find stools in this size range in the stores where I live. I didn't realize until it arrived how perfect 18" is for the place I wanted to use it. I finished it with a light stain and wipe-on polyurethane and it looks great. I'm using it as a stool next to my music setup and shelves with CDs so I can sit and easily see everything, and it turns out to be the perfect height to also use as a side table for the upholstered chair next to it. As my wife and I aged it is used by us to actually sit where we can use the shower because the built in marble bench does not move. The old bench started to come apart. I got this stool to use as a desk chair at my craft desk. I tend to sit on the fronts of seats anyway instead of sitting against the back, and a stool takes up so little room, it's the perfect fit. I can push it completely under the desk when I want it out of the way. It's only 18" which is perfect for my short self, and it also doubles as a "step stool" for the top shelves of craft supplies! Also, the seat is about 14" diameter, which is bigger than some others I've seen (thay were only 12"). It's very sturdy. And since it's unfinished I plan to stain it to match the rest the desk, but it came sanded smooth enough to go ahead and use until I get time to actually stain it. I currently use it on carpet, but if you plan on using it on a hard floor, you will want to put something on the legs to protect the floor--and you'll probably have to sand the bottom of the legs a bit to make them flat. ... show more

I liked the first one enough that I bought a second one for another room about a year later. I've been using the first one for about two years and it shows no sign of getting wobbly. They're well constructed. The stools were easy to finish. I had to do some sanding. Some parts needed more work that others but nothing I wouldn't expect in unfinished furniture. Don't know what kind of wood these are made of but I saturated them with several applications of Danish oil and they look great. Great design and proportions--the seat is a comfortable size. It is scooped but only slightly. It isn't obvious unless you look at it carefully but it is scooped enough to make me happy. The legs have screws at each of the joints but it's done in a way that the screws are hidden. ... show more
