  • Higher temperature than expected
Note that when Intel says 65w, it means that it shouldn't exceed 65w at as long as the processor is running at its base frequency, which is 3.0 Ghz. 8 cores can simultanouesly turbo boost at 4.5 GHz, but it gets hot quite fast with turbo boost. I am using LP53 copper heatsink with Noctua L9i's 92 mm fan on it, with small form factor PC build. This easily reaches 90 degrees Celsius when I use RPCS3 emulator. Contrastingly, 8700T (35w) reaches about 60 degrees on the same load. Sure, 9700 is faster, but heat issue is worse than I expected. I decided this processor wasn't for me, but this may still be a decent choice for others, depending on the PC build. ... show more

  • Great upgrade to an i5. Now 8 cores!
Very fast. No need for the more expensive K version. 4.5 GHz on all 8 core @ 100% utilization on a B360M motherboard. More than enough for gaming. Perfect complement to my RTX 2080. Neither are ever bottlenecked.

  • This thing as great turbo boost
The turbo boost on this thing is insane, I dont know why anyone would go for the K-suffix counterpart. It pulls 1.2 volts from the wall, which is pretty high for a non-overclockable CPU, when gaming at 1080p on ultra settings. Make sure you get a good heatsink, the one that comes with the processor will not suffice. It runs "cool" at 60-ish games on full load during gaming with a good cooler. ... show more

  • Fastest CPU I've ever owned
I know there are faster CPUS and for those that plan to redline things and overclock, this is not the CPU for you, but I find myself ecstatic with the performance of this CPU. The low TDP means that my small form factor build runs cool and quiet even when I've got things running full tilt. Sure, I might be able to buy a CPU that can be overclocked and squeak out a couple more percentage points of performance, but then I'd have to worry about heat. No thanks. This CPU rocks just the way it is. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Nice upgrade
Because video cards are so expensive this year, I could only update the RAM and CPU on my rig this year. I have an ASUS Z370-A motherboard and it’s listed as compatible, but when I installed the new CPU the computer didn’t boot. Troubleshooting said to update the BIOS which made sense because the BIOS I had was from 2018 before 9th gen Intel CPUs. Swapped the CPUs and updated the BIOS with the old CPU and then reinstalled the new CPU and it booted perfectly. - Be sure to update your BIOS before you install the new CPU - Only replace one thing at a time. I know it’s more work to boot up in between, but if you replace RAM, too, you won’t know what’s not working if the boot fails. - Keep your old chip handy in case something goes wrong and you need to swap it out - Don’t put too much conductive paste on the back. One instruction video said a drop about the size of a grain of rice. That seems right. Too much and it gets everywhere. Overall, installation was pretty easy. It took me a couple of tries to get the orientation correct, but it only fits on one way. The hardest part, really was finding and downloading the BIOS on the ASUS website and attaching the Coolermaster radiator and fan over the top. One note: This CPU comes with video but the HDMI out on the motherboard stopped working, It’s not an issue because I use the HDMI and DVI out from a 1070 video card. Bottom line: it was a good upgrade. My games run moderately faster with better frame rate and nothing seems to be running hotter. I’d recommend. ... show more

  • Gave up getting an AMD Rysen to work, this worked right away.
Intel made a whole new chipset for this 9th generation, which was smart, because the AMD Rysen have issues with their older chipset, the board manufacturers are not updating the bio. if you want a no trouble build, go Intel until AMD gets their stuff together.

  • Thermalpaste little bit dirty
Everything's ok, but the thermalpaste of the heatsink got a bit of cardbox's "dust" (that comes with the heatsink)
