So initially as soon as I received this I put it in the pile to return to Amazon. But then after we figured out the electrical connections were very pleased. Here's the situation: our home hot water heater kicked the bucket for the last time, and I want to take this opportunity to upgrade a lot about our system (like increase copper pipe diameter, add multiple water filters, recirculating pump, and add a tankless + tank combination). So we are going to be without hot water for showers for two or so weeks. I initially bought a 110V system which has worked to remove the chill (heating up to about 32C) from the water at low flows, but if we turned up the water flow or the temp setting then we'd inevitably trip a 20Amp circuit breaker. That's why I bought this 220V system, I thought I could use it with the unused 30Amp 220V dryer outlet. However, that outlet was Red, Black, and White (neutral), not grounded. I removed the outlet (after shutting off power), saw that we had ground wire connected to the metal electrical box, and then did the following: Changed to a US 220V 3 prong grounded outlet as pictured, using Ground, Red, and Black. Added the matching 3 prong plug to the wiring of this water heater. Then I ran an10/3 (10 gauge, 3 wire) extension cord usually used for RVs to water heater, et voila, it works! It gets as hot as we need the flow is much stronger than with the prior 110V unit, certainly enough for showers. Note that I did turn down the water flow with the little adjustment screw by the hot water connection to guard against excessive electrical usage. ... show more

This hot water heater seems to work for lower flows. It did not like trying to keep up with a 1.2 gpm faucet. It was warmer but was giving the ll error saying it couldn't keep up. Seems like it could keep up well with a .5 or .75 gpm faucet. During the summer this actually might produce hot water at a decent flow. In the winter it makes water very warm, slow the flow and it will get it hot. For $60 it's an amazing deal if it lasts for a while. It doesn't make any noise and can be set to a specific temperature and will tell you the current outlet temperature also. I'm skeptical of the 5500 watt claim since it says it can use 12ga wire, I need to put an amp meter on it. Does not trip a 20amp breaker. For those that keep having leaks or breaking the inlet and outlet, you are using the wrong type of connectors, these are designed to use the flexible hoses that go on sinks that have the rubber washer inside, this can't use threaded pipe sealer with sealer, just too thin and not designed for that. Others that can't get any heat have the flow backwards, there is a flow switch that won't work if it's backwards. ... show more

Well, the product came with a power connector, for the supply side, which is why a US electrician backed the heck away from this product. It should work fine on US 208-240V at 220V, but the connector they send is, well, never going to see the light of day. I am wondering if it is going to work for my setup or not, somewhat terrified. Not suitable for the majority of RVs/campers with a 3-wire hookup as that only gets you 110/120. Will write more if I actually hook it up and don't just send it back. ... show more
