I have been a fan of HP Premium Plus Photo Paper in my Photosmart 8750 printer, but that paper is no longer available in 13"x19" Satin finish. I began looking for a replacement when I could only find a few remaining boxes of the HP paper for over $100 for 25 sheets. This Ilford paper has a great reputation, so I decided to give it a try. It's slightly heavier than the HP, but feels thinner due to the smoother back surface. However, it does not feel "cheap." Instead, it looks and feels very similar to the HP paper, but I think it may dry even faster. In fact, the Ilford paper seems to be smudge-proof before the end of the sheet hits the exit tray. The finish is almost exactly the same as the HP Premium Plus Satin paper. If you're familiar with the HP paper, you won't be surprised. I think there may be a little less gloss differential on the Ilford paper, so that's a plus. I can detect no difference between unprinted paper and solid black areas of the print. Also, I have read that some users have complained about the Ilford paper not working well with HP inks. I use a Photosmart 8750 with standard HP inks (lots of HP 102 Photo Gray) and have had only great results. As long as I can find HP ink cartridges for this printer, I'll continue to use it, and it looks like the Ilford Galerie Prestige Smooth Pearl is going to be my go-to paper from now on. ... show more

    • An awesome luster paper
Style: Sheets Size: 5x7" - 100 Sheets
As a luster paper, this sits between glossy and matte papers. With that said, this paper seems perfect to me in that (for a luster) it's not too shiny/glossy and not too flat/matte. The thickness, and the texture, make it feel exactly like photo paper. I'm using an Epson 1400 with Claria inks, and colors and details are fantastic. I'm using the generic profiles from Ilford which are freely downloadable. I've tried various papers like Epson and Red River, but this is by far my most used paper. Note: I think that some photographers use a luster/satin paper to help make scanning the images harder (so you return and buy extra prints). You typically see this in school photos. I can't say one way or another that this is the case for this paper, but it may be a concern for. For years, this is my daily go-to paper, and I'm very pleased I've found it. ... show more

I'm currently using a Canon Pixma Pro-10 to print, and so far the only issues I've had have been created by myself. With image quality turned up, calibrated monitor, and the color spaces set appropriately the color reproduction has been fantastic. The level of detail is excellent, and the contrast is exactly what I was after (Canon is known to lack contrast on matte papers specifically). The paper itself isn't quite as heavy as others I've used in the past, but given the size, still has a nice feel to it. This is a solid contender in the middleweight papers for me. ... show more

I'm a nature photographer and ordered this paper for my first art show. I wasn't sure what to expect so I went with my gut and the reviews. All of my prints, including nature/wildlife in color and even city architecture in black and white, turned out excellent! The paper is well-matched with my Artisan 1430 and prints true to color. The combination of thickness and pearl finish makes this brand a perfect choice for my photographic needs. Although I was tempted to try other brands for comparison sake, I'm glad I stuck with ILFORD GALERIE Prestige Smooth Pearl because it ended up being a one-size-fits-all for me. I realized too late after using the paper that I did not receive the Prestige Smooth Pearl but just the regular Smooth Pearl paper. The regular works for what I need, but if you need the Prestige Smooth Pearl specifically, you should probably try the direct company or a more reputable website to guarantee you get the right paper. ... show more

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MkI printer, and have had good results using high gloss Canon Pro Platinum paper. On a whim, I decided to try the Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper. Wow! what a difference. It has a heavy, real photo paper feel to it, and I like the pearl sheen and the slight texture to the surface. Colors pop much more than with the Canon paper. My b&w images always had a green or magenta color cast with the Canon paper, but b&w prints with the Ilford paper are clean. I just entered four Ilford b&w prints in a show and sold four prints. Downloading the ICC profile for my printer and installing it was a snap. Great paper! ... show more
