I don't consider something a liquid to drink if it lacks ice. This machine works great and I love it dearly. I just was tortuted by a more expense NewAir Unit that ran 10 days, then it eventual replacement that was "Refurbished" to which I objected but got anyway. After the "runaround circuit of misery" by NewAir? The eventual Refurb "New Unit" arrived D.O.A. It turned on but the arms would not turn just like the junk unit I bought new. I finally bought this "Igloo- The Wirecutter Recommendation". I LOVE IT!!! It just keeps WORKING AND WORKING CRANKING OUT REALLY NICE ICE. Buy THIS ONE. Please read their EXCELLENT User's Manual. It's highly informative: tells you what to expect, troubleshooting tips, how to use the self-cleaning (easy) feature. It does take a very few minutes of no sounds before you hear it working this is normal. A tip I received from people experienced in buying ice machines: Get the extended warranty. I bought it for 3 years. I realized what a bargain and convenience this unit was compared to the cost and hauling of bagged ice. This wonderful machine also weighs 1/3 of the NewAir garbage. BUY THIS ONE! Update 2 years later: I bought this 12/21. Have used it 24/7 365 to perfection! Now close to two years later it malfunctioned and stopped making ice. The "people in the know" who said "always buy an extended warranty on an ice-maker were right! The warranty people are picking up the device from my home tomorrow for free and issuing me an Amazon credit for the full price to buy a new one. Honestly? Even for the time it worked perfectly non-stop it was worth the $145 or so I paid for it even if I wasn't getting a new one. The dependability and non-stop availability of ice nonstop without having to spend a cent on a bag and lug it around, then have it take precious space in. my freezer was divine. I am left with one confusion: My machine is the "Original Aqua (it might mention the arm) now at $172.00 (approx) I can pay the difference. But the page pulls up the $99 unit "Aqua Arm" or "with Aqua Arm." I would rather pay less, but in reading the reviews they were better for the more expensive unit I had, and the model numbers are similar but different: It is ICEB26HNAQ vs IGLICEB26HNAQ (Higher Price vs Lower Price) but I don't want to be a dummy and pay more if I don't need to, so I'll check with Igloo first comparing motors and here comparing dimensions. I don't want to screw up getting a machine that delivered beyond my wildest dreams because cash is tight. I retried the NewAir junk. It still never worked. I hate that company for charging more, delivering a dud and replacing it with a dud. They robbed me of about $200.00 and tortured me. Never had a functional machine. Stay away from New Air, they are thieves that make broken machines and run an unethical operation. I will bring this up every chance I get as I've never bought and been stuck and replaced and stuck with a lemon buying from ANY company. New Air are "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" as the song goes and are the more expensive choice! They cannot even begun to be compared to Igloo! ... show more

I don't have an ice machine on my refrigerator, and don't like the messy plastic ice cube trays. I purchased this to have ice when I need it. The machine is sturdy, efficient and easy to use. It takes about 8 minutes to get a small amount of ice. Enough for one glass. You do need to plan ahead if you need a large amount of ice. It is a little bulky when trying to empty the water in the sink from the little plug on the bottom once done using. I plan ahead and store the ice in plastic storage bags in the freezer for use when needed. It looks nice on the countertop, or can be easily stored in a cupboard. ... show more

Bought ice maker for my parents because they’ve always bought ice. They dislike city water and the ice that comes from the fridge. It’s just most of the time just the two of them. When they opened their gift, the ice maker was very easy to set up. Very little maintenance. The grandkids and I were mesmerized watching the ice maker making ice. Very fast. The only thing you really have to worry about is adding water to it which is several hours. If water does run out, the ice maker stops trying to produce ice. The small cubes are cute. This ice maker is good. It makes ice reliably, it is low maintenance, and it is easy to use. It can be pretty noisy. We started this unit out on the counter of our kitchen and it was always heard. We found a new place for it in our pantry and now we can hear it much less. I'd place it in the 55dB range, but I could be wrong. The thing that I find most frustrating is that when the ice basket is about halfway full, the ice will build up closer to the ice maker such that it will block the new ice, triggering an error on the machine. Because of this, it's very difficult to get it to produce a full basket of ice without constant intervention. That said, even with it filling the basket only partway, this unit produces about the amount of ice we need for our family of 5. While we're glad that we don't need a huge ice maker unit, we do wish that this one worked just a little quieter and were a little more unnoticed in the house. ... show more

Decided to return this product after using it for two days. There are some pros and cons with this ice maker but the cons are a deal breaker for me. Pros: Small footprint, fairly silent like a distant bathroom fan, makes ice quickly, has a drain plug at the bottom, self cleaning feature. Cons: Since it's small it has a small fan also, which causes the ice to be wet even after a few batches. The ice never solidifies and melt overnight. I have another ice maker I purchased for less than $90, which is slightly larger than this one and has a larger fan. That one solidifies the ice after the 3rd batch due to the size of the fan. Ice is kept overnight without melting. This Igaloo one has a smaller footprint, which makes the fan smaller. Even after the 3rd and 4th batch of ice the ice still is wet. When the water needs to be refilled, the ice doesn't keep overnight. Despite the ice melting into the reservoir below, the need water indicator is on. This is a flaw because my cheaper ice maker detects water in the reservoir if the ice melts and makes new batch of ice until water run out. This one if the ice melts, it requires more water to be added or it requires a power off/on cycle for the sensor to detect water in the reservoir. If you plan to use ice right away and don't mind wet ice, where the ice would melt quickly in your liquid, this would be fine for you. If you're looking for cold ice or want ice to keep overnight, buy one with a larger fan size. ... show more
