  • ICE ICE BABY! Excellent Portable ICE maker!
This Ice maker will not disappoint you. Our ice maker wasn't able to keep up with the demands of these hot temperatures lately so I decided to purchase this product to make additional ice. Plug in, fill with water and press your preferred ice cube size setting and that's it. When your water level is too low a red indicator light will come on. I have a large pantry so the Ice maker is plugged into the wall in there which totally drowns out any noise. ... show more

  • Does what its supposed to do - Make Ice
This is a great little ice making machine. Our Samsung refrigerator has 2 ice makers which have both recently failed (poor design!) and we were sick of running to 7-11 to buy $5 bags of ice every few days. Enter the Igloo ice maker. I was hesitant at first since there were a few negative reviews, but after buying an extended warranty, I felt comfortable taking the risk and buying it. It came about 5 days after placing the order - it's shipped from a 3rd party vendor and they apparently take their time to process orders. Anyway, it came nice packaged and double boxed. I pulled it out, cleaned it and put purified water from my refrigerator and plugged it in. About 5-7 minutes after plugging it in, out popped the first ice "teeth" shaped cubes. They are more shaped like giant elongated gum drops with a hole in the center. Its not what i expected, but nonetheless, these were different shaped that I had envisioned. After it created a few batches of fresh ice, I put it a glass of water - the ":cubes" are white and full of air due to the quick freeze process that occurs when making ice quickly. This results in very crunchy soft ice which I love. I am a big ice chewer, so these were perfect for my tastes - i would describe the texture more like a slightly meltling popsicle texture. The led indicator lights are very bright and maybe its because of the positioning of the labels, it is sometimes challenging to see what is lit and what the ice maker is set. I've memorized the position of the labels now, so its not a big deal, but in the first few times I was using it, it was annoying to cover the led so that I could see what the machine was doing. There is a on/off indicator, low water indicator, ice bin is full indicator, large cube and small cube setting. Have a pitcher of water or bottled water ready after you've made a few baskets of ice. I fill up the water reservoir at least once or twice daily. 30+ days ownership have passed and this machine has lived up to my expectations. There is one quirk to report. The ice chamber/maker - where the ice cubes are stored once they are formed is not a freezing point, so as time passes, the ice cubes begin to melt upon one another making the mass clump together. It would be nice if they didn't, but I guess the design prevents since the water tank is just below the storage basket. Any colder might start to freeze the water source. Just a design thing I guess. I wasn't expecting that much melting to occur, but it does happen. To fix this issue, I dump the ice basket into my freezer section in my fridge and have spoon in the main freezer to break up the clumps when I dump the ice in. It works for us, for now. ... show more

  • Owned for almost 2 years
We’ve owned this ice maker for nearly two years now, and feel enough time has passed for a fair review. Over that period of time, it has been running every day 24/7. Overall, it does what it’s supposed to do; however, if you plan to use it as much as we have, be prepared for some maintenance and possible repairs. A short time after purchasing it, we noticed some water on the countertop near the back of the unit. This was caused by a lack of sealing on the inner left side near the upper tank. When the unit runs, water shoots out of an upper hose to fill the upper tank as it should, but while doing so, it also splashes onto the left inner wall and leaks through inside the unit and down onto the inner framework and eventually onto the countertop. This was repaired by making a shield out of aluminum foil and placing it along the inside wall near the pivot point of the upper tank. A simple fix that worked. Just last week another issue with the ice maker happened. It stopped pumping water, although the movement of the upper tank would still cycle. A search on the internet found that an inner micro switch was a possible fault. Testing with an ohmmeter confirmed the switch was shorted and needed to be replaced. This was another simple fix that cost less that 10 dollars to repair. I’m only giving 3 stars since although it does make ice, and has run continuously for the past 2 years. The water leak issue is a design fault that could easily have be resolved by the manufacturer by molding a shield into the design. Regarding the switch, this may have failed due to the water leak, however wear and tear was probably the reason since the water leak problem was repaired nearly two years ago. Cleaning is essential, and not just with vinegar/water through the “cleaning” function. The top tank area under the black plastic cover must be cleaned by hand on a regular basis, and the stainless surround cover must be removed at least bi-annually to inspect and clean dust build up on the evaporator. ... show more
