It really is a good in the door dog door. It keeps the weather out with the thick flap and the cover to lock it at night is great. We bought an Ultra Flex insert for our patio door some 13 years ago. It has held up nicely, only having to replace the flap a few times. Four dogs and years of heavy use later, the plastic frame finally started breaking and the screw holes busted. Price of a new door is now double what we paid. Saw this and it looked like a match. Thankfully it fit--almost. Our patio insert is thinner than the thickness of the walls the door is meant for. Solution, add a layer of weatherstrip to each side, perfect fit. This was really easy to install, I think the hardest part was cutting the hole in my metal door. Once I convinced my dog that there was a hole there instead of a wall, she uses it all the time to come and go as she pleases. It's "lockable" from the inside, IE there is a solid piece of plastic you slide into grooves to prevent the flap from opening, so you can keep out unwanted critters/otherwise during the night, or to keep your pupper outside if needed. And the heavy weight of the flap keeps the cold air out, and the hot air in (or vice versa) but not too heavy that my dog can't push it out. I have a med/large dog so I'm not sure how this would work for smaller breeds. Bulldog probably fine, otherwise idk. ... show more

My new dog took right to this dog door. My son installed it in less than a hour. It’s summer so it’s hard to tell how well it’s going to keep cold air out but seems to keep hot air from getting in.
