When we got a new refrigerator the ice maker wasn't included, and the kit that went to that model had terrible reviews. I decided to go with a countertop ice maker instead and got this one when it was on sale. So far, it works great. I waited 3 hours after unboxing to allow the oil to settle, cleaned the basket and wiped out the inside. After filling the compartment with water and turning it on, it spit out the first round of ice in around ten minutes. (I threw this first batch away just to be safe.) It was amazing to me how much ice I got for the amount of water I put in! Every couple of rounds of ice, I would empty the basket into a container in the freezer and did this until it was full. The ice did stick together some, but was pretty easy to break apart. Once it was finished, I emptied the remaining water from the ice machine (there's a plug on the bottom of the machine that you pull out to drain it into a bowl) and dried the inside. I plan on using this machine about every two days based on our current ice usage. I've seen some people saying they keep the machine going 24/7. I also see some people complaining about the machine dying in less than a year. I don't know for sure that those two things are related, but I imagine keeping it running constantly isn't the best idea. At the quick rate that it creates ice, I'm also not sure why you would do that. Keep making ice until you have the amount you need, then drain and dry it for next time. I imagine it will last far longer this way. I'll keep using it in this manner and update this review when it finally dies to let you know how long it lasted using this method. UPDATE: Well, it died. Lasted from July 2023 until December 2024, so around a year and a half. Honestly, we took really good care of it and only used filtered water, so it's a biiiiiit disappointing that it already quit working. It worked well and made a lot of ice for the year and a half it worked, so I suppose it's up to you to judge if this sounds worth it to you! I wouldn't count on it lasting longer than this, though. ... show more

    • Great ice maker that is not a freezer

If you want a compact and sturdy transportable machine to make ice bullets for immediate use or longer term storage is a freezer or thermal container, this one is likely to meet your needs. It stops when the little basket is full of ice or there is not enough water to make another 9-bullet batch. With a plugged hole on the bottom, you can unplug it to drain the water. It's not too noisy in my experience so it doesn't disturb the household. The ice is softer than you'll likely get in a refrigerator freezer but if you move the fresh ice into the freezer, they harden a bit. My advice on getting the best ice from the machine is to use refrigerated filtered water and even the first batches are perfect. If not, it takes awhile for the ice to be more than thin, fragile pieces. ... show more

This is a good little ice maker the only problem that I have is that the amount of ice that the tray can hold before it is full is only about a large glass full , and if you're needing something for a get together or cookout you will have to start making ice and dumping it into baggies because you're not going to have enough in the container to feel maybe 2 glasses, but it doesn't take very long to make ice either, and overall the device seems to be built well and other than barely hearing the fan run it is fairly quiet. And as far as setting up the device it's very simple just add water to the full line plug in and start and in 10 minutes or so you got ice. ... show more

    • Great cocktail ice!

We love using this ice maker for cocktail ice! It produces massive amounts of ice in a short time. The ice does melt quickly. As another reviewer mentioned, this is not a freezer. It’s more like a cooler. It works for our purposes. The ice does melt faster than ice from your freezer, but you can do a couple of things to help with that. When I know we’re going to be using this little ice maker, I will start it a couple of hours before we need the ice, and dump the first few batches back into the water tank. They’re always thin and melt almost immediately, but helps lower the temperature of the water, resulting in a harder freeze on the ice. I also cover the top with a folded tea towel, to insulate it. This keeps the temperature inside the unit much cooler, also helping with the consistency of the ice, and it keeps it from melting as quickly. The ice maker makes a tolerable amount of noise. It’s quiet, but you know it’s there. Overall I think it’s good quality for a fair price! ... show more

    • What a nice little device! For one person, it's perfect!

At the price point that this was, I wasn't expecting much. I was wrong. I really like it. It's perfect for one person. It's a nice looking device, and It's pretty quiet. The only time there's a small amount of noise, is when the ice gets done and dropped. It's just a few little clicky noises, and that's it. It is also very quick to fill that little basket. Oh, it is truly best to use DISTILLED water! I mean that. Use DISTILLED water. Tap water will leave behind minerals that can eventually make your machine not work. There is just one issue that I had. It's that little ice scoop. It's too long, and you can't scoop the ice up. You have to use two hands, and you'll still drop a couple or few cubes. You'll need to find a different small ice scoop. So look around online for one of those. Other than that, like I said before, I really like it. And I think you will too. ... show more
