Top Amazon Reviews

  • Works great with PEX and Propress
Model: HT-1950-4NEW
I was a bit leery of this since I had read some negative reviews, but I bought it to give it a try anyway. I normally solder my plumbing joints, but the work I was doing is in a very confined space with Romex and joists way too close to safely solder. I have used it on 1/2" copper and 1/2" brass Propress fittings and on 1/2" copper PEX crimp fittings, and have had 100% success with no leaks. As some of the reviews state, the 1/2" Propress T fitting is a little tight, but it worked fine. I was unsure whether to buy this IBOSAD crimper with all of the dies, including PEX or not. I am glad I splurged for this one with the PEX dies, because I have achieved much better crimps on PEX with this than my other crimper ever did. The included tubing cutter is surprisingly good on the copper pipes, and the PEX cutting tool is really good. I did not use the deburring tool, because I have a different style deburring tool I prefer, but the included tool seems like a good one. The carrying / storage case is very good - all of the dies, tubing cutters and deburring tool snap into place pretty securely. The main body of the tool fits into the case nicely as well. Two things that I wanted to pass on are 1). Mark the copper pipe so that you can verify that it stays fully inserted while you are crimping. I failed to do that on one fitting, and I thought that it had pulled out, so I cut off the fitting and redid it. AFTER I cut it off I could see that it had not shifted, but I would still do the same thing again if I was not sure, since a couple of fitting and a few extra minutes time are much better than a leak. When I used the copper crimp rings on PEX, I put a piece of masking tape on the PEX pipe next to the crimp ring to keep it from migrating while I pumped the tool to crimp the fitting. Then I removed the tape when I was done. 2). Do NOT overtighten with this. Once the crimping dies are tightened and touching each other, pumping the hydraulic cylinder any further will just cause excess pressure without doing anything more to crimp the fittings. The trick I used was to put a piece of paper at the top between the jaws as I tightened it. When the paper was snug and I could not pull it out, I pumped the lever one more time, and I was done. I think users overtightening the crimper is the reason for the one-star reviews about blown seals and the jaws breaking. This crimper seems to be very well made, strong and heavy. If you blow the seals or break the jaws, it is user error and not a materials defect. This tool is pretty heavy, but not to the point of being hard to use. You do have to pump it several times to crimp the fittings, but only the final couple of pumps have much resistance. The first several pumps are just brining the dies together to touch the fitting. The jaws do rotate 350 degrees, so it is pretty easy to rotate it to have the lever to pump up the crimper at a good angle. The various dies fit the jaws very well, and there is an easy to release pin in the center of each jaw to release the dies when you need to change them. When the dies are in place, they are very secure and you do not need to worry about them slipping or shifting. The only negative thing about this tool is that the instructions suck. A lot of it is pretty self-explanatory, but I there are good videos on YouTube if you are uncertain on how to use it, and there is also an instructional video on Amazon in the IBOSAD listings. As a final note - I read some reviews that said the appearance of the Propress fittings after crimping looked "bad". All of the ones I did looked perfect with no marring of the surface of the fittings, and I could not tell the difference in appearance between mine and ones I have seen done with the $2,000 battery operated professional units. If you are like me and not doing plumbing day in and day out, this is a great tool at a good price. I am glad I got it and would definitely buy it again. Update 11/2024 - Still a 5 star review. I replaced 2 water heaters, one of which was moved several feet, so I had a lot of fittings to install for the 2 units. It still worked like a champ - the crimps all look great with no leaks, and the tool itself still looks and works like new. ... show more

  • It works, forget soldering...
Model: HT-1950-4NEW
I've used for Propress and Pex, both work well, previously thought of Propress as not something I couldn't use.

  • ProPress on a budget
Model: HT-1950-4NEW
Great tool for a homeowner/landlord who needs to do a bit of work and wants to keep full flow. Comes with PEX as well as Viega ProPress dies. I used the ProPress for some valves, T's, and elbows. All crimped tight first pass. No issue with T's. Viega tools are usually very expensive and reserved for the pro. This tool allows the use of the superior Viega ProPress system retaining full flow, but with the ease of PEX and a budget friendly cost. Very pleased. ... show more

  • This is an absolute insult to a buyer
I researched this tool for days. I buy $20 to $30,000 of products from Amazon annually. This tool had good reviews and I expected it to be. It comes with 3 sets of crimper that are unlabeled other than numbers. When you look in the ridiculously lacking instructions it tells you to find a professional to figure out what crimpers to use for the job you choose. WHAT???? There are assorted scattered poor quality pictures of the tool..but NONE actually shows you how to use it..or it being used. Now this is a $200 tool and it is of PARAMOUNT importance to have your connections be solid and not leak or break...but still no help from instructions. NEXT...there are pictures of it being separated into a pumping handle and jaws...it doesnt do that. It is impossible to figure out at least 3 features that you either tighten...OR loosen to make a connection. I work with tools all day. I messed with this hunk of junk for 2 hours and I would NEVER EVER use it for my home. It would be wonderful to have this $200 tool make connections like a $2000 Propress. It doesnt..and it won't. I can't wait to get IT...and the hopeless "instruction " book that doesn't instruct out of my workshop. They should be ashamed of themselves.. ... show more
