The clear picture is from hyperkin, the first time putting the game in. The glitchy one is from the Nintendo original refurbished from Dkoldies. Hyperkin works perfectly, my boy even knocked it off the stand and never stopped working. The Original Nintendo refurbished took about 15 times to start and was glitchy and can't barely move the remote without freezing. My wife and I spent just over 200 on original console and games just to not even be able to really play because of freezing and glitches, so I took a chance on this hyperkin and I'm so glad we did. I no longer have to try multiple times to get my NES games to play. This play them right on the first try. More then worth the money.

    • Nice little system if you play on a CRT
I bought this to use on a CRT television. Video quality is good, and it works with most games. Some games will not run on the system though. The Zapper light gun will work just fine. It probably won't look too great hooked up to a modern tv since it only has component cables (RCA). Get an HDMI system if you want to play on modern tv's. ... show more

Small, compact, and plays most NES games. Some Issues are Battletoads will freeze up. Rad Racer 2 has glitches and Kung Fu does not work but it will on the ever-drive cart. It does play the ever-drive N8 cartridge. Something the Retron 1 HD didn't do. The controller feels great. Although it doesn't bother me some may not like that there isn't a ratio switch so the picture is stretched wide on HD TV's. the cartridge slot is tight at first but loosens up after a while. So for everything I want to play on at has worked. A lot of Internet reviewers rate it kind of low, but they're clearly different types of gamers than I am. I don't nitpick my games to the point of looking for every last pixel. And I expect that retro games aren't going to look as good as something current. I think the system helps to scratch that nostalgia itch. I've only tried it with about 20 different games but I've not had any trouble with anything yet. I have a raspberry pi and can play games on that, but the system lets me play my physical cartridges. There's really no substitute for that. ... show more

    • A clone NES that is finally worth the money. Sound fix and...EVERDRIVE?!
I can honestly say, this is by far the best clone NES I have played. I don't know why hyperkin does not advertise this, but this clone has finally fixed what has been pledging these clone Nes for a long time, sound. It has be fixed to a point where super mario bros. 1-3 don't sound like trash. It sounds as it should! FINALLY! It also has been confirmed, that everdrives works on this clone as well! I have tested my N8 famicom everdrive via cartage converter. Further tests is needed to see if it can play the hard to find titles, as well as ones that don't work on clones. Follow up to come soon. All I can say is this, buy it if you want a back up Nes clone for a crt/pvm that actually works. ... show more

    • A Christmas gift they loved
I bought this for my mom for x Mas, as I remembered while growing up she had an obsession with a game called yoshi. She was super competitive with my aunt and I enjoyed watching them play when I was a kid. I also bought a multicart here on Amazon for me as I am also a retro gamer because of memories like these. It plays official carts and multicarts fine. The controller it comes with is honestly more comfortable than the original controllers for the nes. Sound is a little off, but not enough to bother me and is fairly common on nes clone systems. ... show more
