  • ... normally don't bother with reviews but i thought I better for this pump
Style: 1100 GPH
I normally don't bother with reviews but i thought I better for this pump. I have put this pump through hell. Removed the foam filter completely and just let her buck in a pond for the last year. I had it inside a home made filter which was basically just a bucket full off dish scrubbies. The bucket would clog and starve the pump for water till my water fall was a piss trickle for days. Cleaned and it was 100% again. Now i just toss it in the pond without the bucket and pull the crap fron the grate once in awhile. I left for a few days and the intake got so packed with sludge that the pump was getting zero water. It blew the ground pin out of my extension cord and tripped the breaker. I pulled the sludge out and swished it around in the pond and she fired right up full flow and hasnt quit yet. Did i mention the pond is directly under a tree and has two geese and two ducks that live and s*** in it all day. The pump is a beast. ... show more

  • It's been a while but it still spins.
Style: 1100 GPH
How about once a year, I spend between a 100-150 bucks on a pump and then a year later it stops spinning. None of them ever siezed up. The just usually wind up vibrating the impeller rather than spinning it. I got tired of spending that kind of money on a pump that's just going to die, so I ordered this El Cheapo. So the first thing I did was just remove the filter altogether and place the pump inside the pump box I usually use. It's just a shoe box size box with a perforated top and a hole in the middle to allow hose go down inside the box. My pond always has clear water but there is algae but it's mostly free floating algae with some stringy stuff and as long as I don't mess around with the gravel filter the water stays clear. But let me tell you what. If I put a filter on the inlet of that pump, it will plug up with algae in a matter of days. Without the filter, it will run 2 to 3 months before I need to disassemble the pump and flush it out. Disassembly is a breeze and so is putting it back together. In fact it's the perforated top of the box that gets plugged up with algae. Most of the time I don't have to clean the pump. ... show more

  • Broke down less than 48 hours after installation
Style: 400 GPH
Purchased this pump for my hydroponics setup. Had it shipped to friend in AZ, then shipped over to Croatia, paid all customs and import fees. After 48 hours of running, pump stopped working. Took it apart and found that central axis is broken. This axis is inside a welded magnetic field, and it should not break under any circumstances. Either design or materials must be extremely low quality for it to break like that. In addition, Active Aqua has no contact listed on their website for customer service, so I couldn't ask them for replacement part. Keep in mind that people generally leave positive reviews right after installing the pump. These photos should be a proof enough that this pump will die on you sooner rather than later. Lack of customer service doesn't help either. ... show more

  • Important information lacking in description and reviews
Style: 400 GPH
Seems to run quietly with a lot of power at 3 ft head and 3/8 in inside diameter tubing. Came with 2 outlets of non standard diameter, about 1/2 and 3/4 inch. No standard tubing would fit either but was able to force 3/8 I.D. And 1/2 in O.D. Over smaller one with heat and a lot of effort. Several days of reading reviews and product description yielded no reliable info about head capacity or outlet size as multiple models were grouped together and gave conflicting specs. Pump is OK product info worse than useless. . ... show more

  • Questionable reliability
Style: 400 GPH
This is my second of these pumps. The first lasted several years before it died. The new one, however, was making noise within 1 month of purchase and when I looked into the issue, I could see that something inside the pump was interfering with the impeller, causing it to start and stop. I've reached out for customer support. I will update what I learn. ** Update** Added a star because upon contacting them, they immediately offered to replace the product. They believe there is a failure with the impeller magnet. **Update 2** Had to remove stars. After a year, the pump suddenly lost so much power that it is useless. What makes that worse is that I use it to run a hydroponic planter that only runs about 5-6 months out of the year and stays stored inside the rest of the year. ... show more

  • Bad Pump
Style: 1100 GPH
Ordered this and waited more than a week for it to arrive. Of course, it was broken when it got here. I'm still going to review it a bit though. The good: The pump arrived well packaged. It came with a number of adapters for different pipe sizes. There is an adapter for an aerator, but it is only for 3/4" pipe. I am not sure why they thought this might be the only pipe size where you want an aerator, but at least it came with one. There is an internal pre-filter that is included with the pump. It is made of a washable foam material, so it should last some time. There is also a bag of o-rings included as well as actual paper instructions and suction cup feet. Overall, a pretty comprehensive setup. The bad: We will skip the totally broken part for now. The cord is not all that long. I did not measure it, but maybe 6 feet. You would expect a 1000 gph pump to go into a sizable pond - apparently this pump is not designed for the center of it. The plastic housing for the internal filter is thin and probably not going to last. It clips onto the main housing in a way that is not all that sturdy and I would fear it will separate in the pond. Overall, I would think this is a mediocre pump. If it worked and could really push the volume advertised, I would think this is a 3-4 star unit. Now, the broken part. The unit arrived without a cover for the impeller and the impeller shaft was broken. The impeller itself is plastic, the impeller shaft is plastic, and the cover was probably plastic. It would be nice if they used better materials and didn't break things. I would not recommend this pump ... show more
