Top Amazon Reviews

  • Excellent Value
Style: Pro Series Power Cage - Yellow
With the current worldwide pandemic crisis and subsequent gym closures I feared that I would lose all the gains I worked so hard for. I had some bars and weights (from the 80's) at home, so I began to attempt some workouts on my back patio, even though I lacked a bench or a squat rack. I went shopping online for these products only to find virtually everything sold out. I finally came across the Hulkfit Power Cage which was still available (and at a reasonable price) through Amazon. I read virtually all the reviews not only at Amazon, but at other sites as well. Most reviews were positive. Some reviews complained about misfitting parts (bent parts, safety bars holes not lining up, making the bars difficult to install) . After I felt satisfied that the positive reviews outweighed the negative ones, I decided to place my order. I paid a little more than some of the cheapest quotes provided by some reviewers, but it was an acceptable amount. I then had to select a delivery "appointment" (the shipping was being managed by a logistics company). I then became concerned that the order would take an inordinate amount of time to ship (Amazon had banners warning that because of the pandemic, they would need to prioritize some essential orders, which could mean delays). I also found a bench on Amazon (made by another company as the Hulkfit bench was not available). Nevertheless within 24 hours I received confirmation that my Hulkfit order had shipped, and was provided tracking information. Through tracking the shipment, I learned that my shipment had arrived in my hometown two days (coming from Washington state all the way to North Carolina) after my order date. Nevertheless, my delivery appointment was scheduled for 5 days later, so I had to wait. The delivery company rescheduled my order from the morning (which I had requested) to the afternoon which I accepted. Sure enough I received the shipment as scheduled (I agreed that they could leave the box in the driveway in front of my house) and I managed to get that box (which was incredibly heavy) to the back of the house (where I planned to assemble it). I should note that I received the bench (which was shipped by another company) the same day. The next morning I began to open and unbox the rack in preparation for assembly. I should note that the item was incredibly securely packed and I arrived without any damage to the rack. Upon inspection, I was delighted at the robust construction of each component. The rack appears to be made out of 14-guage steel (by my calculations). The safety bars, J-hooks and chin-up bars are heavy and substantial. Even though I am very mechanically inclined, I made a couple mistakes in the initial assembly (the included instructions, provided only pictures, no text), but I lost little time in correcting my mistakes. From reading all the reviews, I learned that a few prior reviewers had problems with lining up the holes in the rack (which made installing the safety bars difficult or impossible) which could be attributable to their mistake of tightening all the bolts before they installed the bars. Hulkfit did provided an advisory sheet in the instructions to leave all the bolts a little loose until the safety bars are installed. I followed that advice. Hulkfit provided enough bolts (the nuts are the "Nylock" type, which prevents loosening when used - a nice touch). Finally, my squat cage was completely assembled. I did find two very slight problems: 1) - one of the J-Hooks required some slight grinding (on one of the side plates) in order to fit and 2)- on the left side, despite the fact that I did install the safety bars prior to tightening all the bolts, I had some problem with the holes not lining up perfectly (this appears to be attributable to the rear vertical support beam twisting slightly when the bolts were tightened), but I am still able to install that safety bar with a little extra push. On final inspection, I was impressed with the sturdiness of the rack. It was actually more substantial in structure than the squat rack I use at the commercial gym. It is slightly smaller that the commercial rack, but that is actually an advantage, as space is limited at my house (I am 6'/225 lbs and the rack is plenty large for me). It's also attractive with its yellow and black color scheme. The next few days, I used the rack for benching, squatting and chin-ups. I was delighted at the stability of the rack. I'm in my 60's, so the maximum weights I use are around 270 in the squat, 225 in the bench. The rack appears capable to handle much heavier weights The holes are about 4" (center to center), 3" (edge to edge) but I had no problem finding appropriate heights for the J-hooks, safety and dip bars. I find that the dip bars are perfectly positioned for dips, pushups, etc. for me. Surprisingly, despite it's heaviness and sturdiness, it is possible (and not too difficult) to move the rack across the floor if needed (which is an advantage for me on my somewhat crowded sheltered rear patio). Overall, I am delighted with my new rack (I feel that I got more than my money's worth) and I look forward to years of hard training at home. ... show more

  • Excellent mid-range rack
Style: Pro Series Power Cage - Yellow
To properly frame this review: I am 5' 11", 180 lbs and use the rack for your standard lifts with no more than 250 lbs. For the price point, this power rack is excellent. It checks all of the major boxes for my use: solid construction (see note below on lateral stability), enough adjustment points (rack holes are on 10 cm centers), suitable space inside the rack, pull-up bar has multiple grips (see note below), all of the accessories and attachments are excellent, and the paint finish looks good. Assembly: Assembly was rather easy though the instructions were not very thorough. HulkFit may have changed their design recently because all pieces seems symmetrical so there were no issues with incorrect installation. The included nuts were of the nylon-lock type which was nice; however, I purchased some washers to use in assembly to help protect the finish on the rack. An extra set of hands would have been nice and a step-stool is almost required, but assembly was simple. Stability: Overall the rack is very stable for most lift cases. It is solid fore and aft; however, it is slightly less stable in the lateral direction. The only time I have realized this is when doing pull-ups. I don't feel that this is a big deal, but it is not as rock-solid laterally as it is fore and aft. Some diagonal cross members connecting the vertical posts to the lower cross members would solve this problem. Sizing: In my opinion, this rack hits the sweet spot for a home gym when it comes to size. There is enough room on the inside of the rack and the pull-up bar is high enough yet the footprint is manageable in my basement. Accessories/Attachments: With the base rack, I have the lat pulldown attachment, j-hooks, round dip bars, flat dip bars, and two sets of weight pegs. There are enough adjustment holes that I can easily mount all of the attachments in usable positions or out of the way for stowage. Those that are stowed (round and flat dip bars) are easily placed in their useful positions with no rearranging of the other accessories. All of the accessories mounted to the vertical posts are sturdy and have thin felt on the inside of the attachments to protect the finish on the vertical posts. Condition: The condition of the rack on arrival was acceptable. There were a few scratches, chips, and blemishes in the finish but nothing that ruins the aesthetic of the rack and nothing that should impact functionality. While I am overall satisfied with the rack (especially considering the price point) there are a few features that would make this rack feel more premium vice an entry-level: 1.) All of the grips are either basic metal tubing (round dip bars, some pull up grips) or have plastic grips over the metal tubing (lat pull down and row attachments, main pull up bar grip). Knurling on these pieces would give these accessories a better feel and overall improve the utility of the rack. 2.) The j-hooks and flat dip bars do not have any wear pads. Wear pads would be nice to help protect the finish on the accessories or the finish on your barbell. I expect the finish on the j-hooks and flat dip bars to be damaged by the knurling on my barbell so I plan to install some UHMW wear pads. However there is one thing of note with this possible DIY fix: the retaining lip on the j-hooks and flat dip bars are relatively small and adding the wear pads will only reduce their effectiveness. Adding wear pads may not be acceptable from a safety perspective. 3.) Small lateral sway braces would ensure rock-solid lateral stability of the rack. Overall, I am very satisfied with this power rack -- great functionality and value. ... show more
