Update after 2 months: My teapot is getting buildup on it again. its easy to wipe down, but its still accumulating. My wife commented on the water in the shower as feeling dry. Looks like my water is just too hard to go without the softener. I will keep this along with the softener once I turn it back on, as there was definitely a change in some things. Original review: My softener apparently started spraying water everywhere during its weekly flush cycle. since its in a utility room with the water heater, I don't really go in there except every few months to add more salt. Well... it's rusted out so much in that room. The wife was never a fan of the feel of the softened water anyway. Now, I do not know the hardness of my well water, only that it IS hard. Without the softener, soap and shampoo really doesn't sud up, and there starts to be build up on the faucets, toilets, etc. Well, instead of replacing my faulty softener, I figured I'd give this a go. Installation: Super easy. Can you plug in something and wrap things around a pipe? Thats it. Week 1: After a few days, I noticed better suds in the shower, and my skin wasn't quite as itchy. The hard deposits in my tea kettle started to break up more and more. Week 2: I feel as if I got MORE sediment coming out. perhaps this is the garbage in the pipes starting to break up? Water pressure in the shower feels stronger, hot water seems to be getting a bit hotter/lasting longer. I should flush it to remove any sediment that may have started to fall of the elements. Dishwasher. More sediment on dishes. Week 3: Hard water spots around the sinks and such are a flaky white power-like substance now that cleans off extremely easy. Still show some white around some faucets and such. Cleaned out the tea kettle and it came clean with soap and water. Normally I'd have to soak in vinegar. Dishes are coming clean with no residue I'll update if things continue to change, but overall, I'm thinking this will mean to me no softener replacement necessary. I wasn't expecting miracles, and some of the more positive changes have been slow and steady, but so far, so good. ... show more
