Description

Get ready to kick some serious past with the wildly inappropriate unrated version of Hot Tub Time Machine. The outrageous laughs bubble up when four friends share a crazy night of drinking in a ski resort hot tub, only to wake up with serious hangovers in 1986 – back when girls wore leg warmers, guys watched Red Dawn and Michael Jackson was black! Now, nice- guy Adam (John Cusack), party animal Lou (Rob Corddry), married man Nick (Craig Robinson) and mega-nerd Jacob (Clark Duke) must relive a wild night of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll and try to change their future – forever! Hot Tub Time Machine hits the bull's-eye: it's a rude, crude comedy with enough smarts and emotional sweetness to make it completely entertaining. Seeking to bring some youthful optimism back to their failed, miserable lives, three middle-aged guys--Adam (John Cusack), Nick (Craig Robinson), and Lou (Rob Corddry)--go to a mountain resort where they spent some of their wildest days (reluctantly dragging along Adam's nephew, Jacob, played by newcomer Clark Duke). A drunken accident in the titular hot tub sends them swirling back to 1986, where each of them decides to risk changing the future (and possibly erasing Jacob from existence) by doing things just a little differently. A plot summary doesn't capture the movie's rambunctious, daffy spirit as much as… well, the ridiculous title: this is a movie called Hot Tub Time Machine! Any expectation you may have will be met and surpassed. John Cusack delivers another underplayed yet marvelously funny performance, his best since High Fidelity; Clark Duke, from the TV show Greek, proves a promising young comic talent. But the movie really belongs to Robinson and Corddry, who've been floating around the edges of tons of comedies--some have been good, some have been bad, but they've both been consistently funny even in crappy movies. Hot Tub Time Machine gives them center stage and lets them reveal the comic chaos they can deliver. It helps, but is not necessary, to have lived through the '80s to find Hot Tub Time Machine exquisitely silly. --Bret Fetzer

  • When will he lose that dang ARM!!!???
This is one of my all time favorites 80's style movie! I love the cast, Craig Ferguson...hilarious!!!! That" bald guy" Rob Courdrey ( don't know how to spell that)lol, I love his rude, gross humor soooo much, John cusak annoys the piss out of me, so does his character so it's fitting. And that youngest guy with the glasses, actually funnier than I expected. This movie is a gross, raunchy, goofy comedy, and I'm pretty sure it was intended to be that way. Either way, I love it since I first saw it. The squirrel is hilarious and I love Chevy Chase! So yeah, the bald guy, is unhappy with his life, gets drunk tries to take his life unsuccessfully. His old friends come to visit his pain in the a** in the hospital and plan a trip to a ski resort they used to frequent in the 80's to cheer him up, then be done with him. They get there and discover their beautiful, party ski town is run down and a horrible mess. Bums, closed down shops, no longer the PARTY PLACE they used to go. So they decide to get drunk and messed up while awkwardly hot tubbing together with a energy drink from Russia. They get all twisted and the drink spills during their partying, taking them back to an important event that took place for them in the 80's, when they had a blast. They had to re live the entire night exactly the same as they did 30 years prior so they don't create the butterfly effect, while trying to find the drink to take them back. Silly party shenanigans and fun ensue. Not going to spoil the ending but it's an 80s flashback with a good cast and goofy raunchy comedy! Better than the 2nd one they made ... show more

Yeah, this movie is filled with some laughs. A few general flaws however. First, most of the humor is all centered around time travel. I get it, time travel is the whole basis of the movie. But take away that element and I can't possibly imagine this movie being even a fraction as good as it is. It's hardly the first time traveling movie, not by a longshot, but it's probably either the first or one of the few that's whole entire purpose is to be a slapstick comedy from start to finish. ... show more

This is a laugh out loud movie. A little crude but who cares. When you need a laugh you will get many from this movie.

  • A Generation X Period Piece Classic
If you're Gen X, the uproarious "Hot Tub Time Machine" will fill you with the joyous throwback raunch you crave. Heavy on banal sexual situations and drenched in yesteryear references, this massive triumph in buddy movie humor serves as a bridge from bawdy predecessors like 1999's "American Pie" to modern purveyors of raunch like "Ted" and 2019's record label spoof "Stadium Anthems." Three forty-something pals from high school (John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Cordry) return to a ski lodge to reclaim some mojo from their soul-destroying adult lives. They inebriate in the hot tub, only to wake and realize they’re back in 1986 -- and that's because the hot tub is actually a time machine. Ludicrous? Straight up. Gut-busting and inspired? Yes, and to an extent few others manage. Vomiting, urination, and fornication happen en masse in “Hot Tub Time Machine.” But this isn’t just time-tripping '80s nostalgia: In its deceptively big heart, this is a film about the enduring nature of lifelong friendships under pressure from the debasing rigors of American adulthood. That balance of gleeful naughtiness and midlife sentiment positions "Hot Tub Time Machine" as a classic comedy film. - (Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!) - WATCHED IT? THEN WATCHLIST: "Stadium Anthems," "American Pie," "Ted." ... show more
