Pumice is a frequently used product for Bonsai planting by professional planters. Pumice serves to dry out the potting mixture while retaining enough moisture to allow roots to grow.Pumice takes a very long time to break down and can be used multiple times. Pumice is one of 3 primary ingredients to the “Boon mix” substrate renowned for it’s ability to grow a quality Bonsai plant. Pumice is a type of Volcanic rock substrate that has demonstrated a better quality of growth for bonsai plants against traditional soils. Bonsai plants will typically die out when placed into a traditional soil media, therefore substrate materials such as pumice make for a better growth environment.

Solved all of my root rot problems immediately. I had to make so many changes for my Potted Agave before it decided it was okay to take hold and sprout roots and wanted to stay with me. I had to make a mixture of 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 Cactus Soil, Mohave Dirt, and Pumice and changed my pot to Clay, the baby it has was dying and it was shriveling in plastic with all Cacti soil. Now it's taken root both the mother and baby and the center is starting to uncoil to expose a new leaf,. Beautiful succulent cacti I got that's happy, but it was like a math formula before I got it right and a lot of work and 3 re-pottings within 2 months before it showed signs of being happy. I cannot grow in plastic for some reason. I don't know how and I don't like it at all! But this pumice is very good for the mixture; this product will solve the drainage & breathing problems of your plant for sure. ... show more

Good amount for a decent price, but man is this stuff dusty. I had to spray it off with a high pressure garden hose nozzle for 10 minutes, soak it in hot water for an hour, then spray it off again over a screen for another 10 minutes to finally separate the fine grain particles and remove enough of the dust for the water to almost run clear. Without washing/rinsing/screening the pumice there would be enough small particles, sand sizes pieces, and so much DUST that it would have clogged every drainage hole and oxygen source in the entire pot with a gritty, heavy, soupy silt layer, and inevitably killed whatever plant was potted in it. I rinsed the entire bag on a screen over a 26"x22"x18" container and after the water began to run off somewhat clear, I let the silt and particles settle for an hour. In the end the amount of excess dust and small particles that washed off the full bag was over and inch high at the bottom of the container. =/ Rinse, rinse, rinse RINSE first! ... show more

In my opinion the pumice soil amendment is very costly for two quarts! The bag had a big cut in it as though someone use a box blade to cut it. The pumice had spilled in the Amazon bag because of the cut! Overall I received the item when expected. The pumice is as expected though it is somewhat powdery. ... show more

I thought this would be good to cover some cactus plant (soil) but when you water the stones they turned yellow and look like someone had urinated a circle around a plant. I found a better quality stone else where. There’s also came with a lot of powder on them so made unpacking messy.

The packaging was terrible. The actual bag was torn and it was sealed in a second bag/non-original packaging. Other than that, the pumice does the job for the succulent mix I made. It’s not uniform in size but it’ll have to do.
