    • Good product but not what I intended.
I purchased this product to avoid having to run the extra wire to my heating/AC unit. I have an outdoor combo HVAC system that was buried in the snow, and wanted to install my new smart thermostat sooner than waiting for the snow to melt and the mud to dry up a little. Running a new wire would have meant getting in the crawl space underneath my house, and having to open up the HVAC unit. Since this particular device needs to be installed INSIDE the HVAC unit (which was only discovered after reading the instructions), it completely defeats having to open it all up in the first place. I'll just have to run the wire in a month or two when the weather cooperates a little better. It "probably" is a decent product judging by it's design and installation procedures, and would most definitely work in a scenario where accessibility to the HVAC unit is easier like a basement, but just wasn't going to work for me. I gave it 4 stars because of the ease of return and to make any other buyers aware they'll need access to the other end of the wire for their thermostat. ... show more

Have been waiting for a solution to my old thermostat that does not have a C-wire. This did the trick! We were able to purchase the Amazon Smart Thermostat and have it completely compatible by using this wire converter. Box came sealed, but missing the labels clearly stated in the list of items included and required as a critical step in the instruction manual. Contacted the manufacturer and was basically told, "Oh well. Return it and order a new one." Already waited weeks for this one so, just going to make my own. Not to mention, what a waste of shipping fees, associated emissions, and devaluation of a brand new but now open-box item if I were to follow the advice of Honeywell's customer service. It took me a while to get this to work. The reason is that the installation instructions are terrible. I'm an engineer so I can not imagine what a layman would do. However, the YouTube video I found was terrific. I actually generally prefer written instructions but the video was great and I got it installed in 1/2 hour.
