I need to do some more measuring, but as far as I remembered this one here is my one frame and box that has too much Bee space in it Bee space is supposed to be 3/8 of an inch on each side of the frame to any wood or joining frame It is the most perfect measurement that the bees like for crawling in between and moving air around in their chambers This particular box has almost enough room to add an 11th frame and it’s not supposed to have that much room but before I make final judgment, I’m going to verify this again and do another extensive measuring as I have got to worth of bees coming tomorrow and I’ve got to figure this out fast because it’s either a good thing or really bad thing and I’m gonna have a mess on my hands Too much Extra bee space means combs that spill over and hangup on each other which makes it difficult to pull frames out. Also, bees tend to make comb in extra empty areas so thats the last thing I want to see. More than likely the import boxes are all having similar issues. I need to chat with a master bee keeper to find out more ... show more

In the spring our lawn is mostly purple wildflowers. We delay mowing as long as possible to give our local bees the best chance, but we've never kept a proper hive. After ordering some carpenter bee traps, Amazon recommended this. Hmm. I could keep bees I thought. Our local honey tastes great and we have a local association of beekeepers. I said yes and ordered this super, without even knowing what that meant. Bees won't be moving in for a while. Turns out you first need to set up a larger brood box to start the hive. So I will be ordering one of the several starter hives on Amazon including the mesh hat, smoker, lid, base, queen excluder etc. We'll move a swarm into that hive along with some feeders and wait for them to build it out with everything necessary for the colony to survive. Only then does this super get added to the hive. The worker bees, but not the queen will start building the super frames into combs which can eventually be harvested for human consumption, leaving the larger brood box solely for use by the bees. In the mean time, I have this lovely pine box and 10 frames in the house, providing a refreshing pine scent , and a visual reminder to keep the colony healthy till they are ready for this super. As far as I can tell, the white painted exterior, 10 frame super with plastic beeswax dipped panels is perfect. It will be some time before the bees get their vote. It's nothing to look at but it works as a pre-built hive. Construction quality is ok but I'd prefer more solid construction. I'm the overkill it type when it comes to construction. It should last awhile provided you seal the wood but it's not very heavy which makes me wonder about the material quality ... show more

This is a really nice complete medium super and the overall construction is very nice. My question is why are the frames getting more narrow? A 10 frame should fit exactly 10 frames without any large gaps and instead I can fit another entire top bar in it to make it fit perfectly. This isn't on the hive box, their measurements were spot on, it is the thinning down of the frames as I have the exact same issue in my other hives. Regardless that's my tiny rant even though it doesn't detract from this product or company whatsoever. It's just an annoyance to have to fix. Overall I'm very happy with the kit I ordered and it's really nice to have the whole box and frames ready to go. Pricing is a bit higher than other companies but it comes assembled and with free shipping and considering I live in Alaska, that's a huge plus. ... show more

This is a very well made box. I’ve been keeping bees for a long time and have purchased many boxes and frames. Many that are being sold right now are very cheap materials that start coming apart after one season if you’re lucky. This box is made well and painted which saves me some time. The people saying they aren’t waxed and things must be used to using the cheap type boxes because a quality box only needs painted to last in the weather. I just put a second coat of white paint on several of my boxes this year that are about 4 years old and they are still in great shape. I would rather pay more and have something last longer than to get a cheap box that needs replaced every year or two. I always put wax on my plastic frames with a foam paint roller. These look like they have a decent amount of wax already but I still coated them in wax that I collected the last time I extracted honey. To me it is worth the extra few minutes to make sure my bees will draw them out quickly. I would recommend ... show more
