  • Great investment, glad I bought them!
Color: White
This unit is bigger than I expected, admittedly I did not pay attention to the dimensions on the product page. I was more concerned with how well it worked and if it is going to still be working 6 months from now. Well it definitely works! I have been running one in a second bedroom/office where I smoke, the room is approx 12x12 and if I close the door it will filter every bit of the smoke out of the air but it does not happen immediately. I have the unit across the room from the desk where I smoke so the smoke fills the room before it reaches the filter. I intend to rearrange my desk area to move it closer. I noticed a marked improvement in the air after leaving it on med overnight the first night. The air was, lighter, it seemed easier to take a deep breath, almost natural to do so rather than having to focus on a deep breath. My husband said he couldn't tell a difference except it was a good fan, the room was cooler. Yes it does circulate the air in the room, which is what you want to happen, naturally this is going to cool the air but not so much as to make it uncomfortable and actually I felt that when I placed it under the heating vent with the intake facing the vent it warmed the room by cirulating the heat from the vents better. Wish I could mount this thing directly under the vents on the ceiling. I have ran this one for a week non-stop and still works great, no rattling or strange noises. I do not use the ionic option because I think it's bad to breathe ozone, I was glad this machine allows you to keep that turned off. The fan on high sounds like a box window fan to me, it is a bit loud after a while because its constant sound, my husband said it sounded like a helicopter landing, I dissagree. I like the med setting the best, it works fairly well and clears the room of smoke in about 30-45 minutes and after about an hour or so its as if there was never smoke in the room. Low doesn't seem to do much for short term, I think its good as a maintenance setting or for overnight as it is almost inaudible. I did like it for nightime with room closed up, the air was very fresh and clean in the morning. These are great for a clean fresh smelling home but they do take about an hour to make any difference. Definitely for smaller rooms or close to the source of pollution such as smoke. I bought one for each of my kids and I bought a larger one (Holmes® HAP726-U True HEPA Allergen Remover for Medium to Large Rooms) for my husband in our bedroom. he does have allergies and he did say he could breathe better after it ran for just several hours, I have high hopes. One note on the larger unit it definitely makes the room a lot cooler. I tried this unit in our bedroom and my husband said he could not tell any difference in his allergies. That was only one night though and the bedroom was way too big for this untit and the air had never been filtered prior to that so it had a lot going against it. We have a very dusty house thats about 15 years old with the original carpets. 3 large dogs inside and we used to have 2 cats inside about 2 years ago until my husbands allergies just couldn't take them anymore. I honestly feel these were a good investment. I can tell a difference and so can my family. Oh also my daughter and her boyfriend stayed in the spare bedroom and they both reported that they slept very well, even the boyfriend who has trouble sleeping. They both said they didn't wake up all stuffy and coughing like usual. So there was better results in the smaller room where the unti had been running for a week already. Its too early for me to report on the dust and durability but I have confidence this brand will last from all the great reviews I read from several sites. I highly recommend. I also bought the double pack replacement filters when I bought the units. ... show more

  • Way better than the price implies

Scroll to the bottom and I'll address a couple of things others have mentioned (black dust etc) I can say from personal experience that my allergies are directly proportional to dust in the air, and that having an air filter in the bedroom makes a huge difference especially when I'm sleeping. So, if you've been looking at room air filtration you might be tempted to believe that you'll have to buy some no-name for at least $100 or else it's all super crap, right? Not really. These Holmes filters are pretty good. I've bought three so far. The first one I used for more than 5 years before it was broken through no fault of its own. The second one has been going for a few years in my bedroom, right next to the head of my bed. The third one I just bought (2022) for my office, which has extra dust from the cat box cabinet and from the 3d printer. You can feel them move the air, after running it in a normal-size bedroom for a few hours you'll notice the temperature is a little different (like having a fan running). Even if you keep a clean house, if you live in a hot/dry place like me you'll have dust, constantly. Even more if you have pets. You'll notice that the level of dust settling on things decreases immediately. My hearing isn't perfect, and I like a little white noise when I sleep, so I keep mine on the medium setting next to my side of the bed. My partner didn't have any issues with it from the other side. The quiet setting is pretty quiet; the high power setting is like having a big fan going. Which, let's face it, is what it is. OK so a couple of things that come up in the comments: - It's getting weird black dust on stuff! This is because you have the "ion" setting turned on and your air is dirty as hell. The ion setting makes the extra fine dust in your air stick to surfaces (like the dust filter). If you've got a ton of dust, some of the extra fine stuff IS going to make it through the filter and land right next to it. It will clear up after a while if it's able to knock down the overall dust level in your room, which it should. Put it on a hard surface you can wipe, aim the "exit" side of the fan away from your curtains or whatever. You can also just turn the ion setting off. Also - I wouldn't put it aimed at the metal legs of a desk; if the air is so dusty that you're getting black ion dust you'll also start getting static charges on your desk. Science! - It caught on fire! That's really weird, and hey maybe you got a crazy bad one, but for reals: Did you put it in a cluttered, hoarder corner? Is it getting airflow? Is the filter completely caked in dirt? These things are DEAD SIMPLE - they're just a fan, and in The Year of Our Lord 2022 fan technology is pretty mature. ... show more
