I first bought the long long teaspoons by the same company, but this set isn't as dark black as those were. They are a TAD lightweight / but the knives feel a bit more substantial. I neve use my dishwasher and the color has not come off of mine (yet) ... DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER... I don't mind handwashing / no big deal. No rust on mine because there won't be if you dry them completely like you should. Nice set. I don't like the knives though - so I bought a different set of black steak knives that have an all plastic handle which are better. I got these and I really should've read the reviews before I bought them. It is really recommended that you hand wash these instead of using them in the dishwasher. I ran the dishwasher once and the underside coating is already starting to warp. The cutlery itself isn't black, but instead metal with a coating on it. I've also seen reviews where they apparently start to rust so be careful with it. They are pretty good quality and seem to hold well, just not in a dishwasher ... show more

I personally love the look of the silverware. It’s a nice matte black, very streamline. The only problem is the steak knives that come with it; they have a coating on them and they flake off. I tried putting them in the dishwasher and that was bad! Then I tried to hand wash them and the coating was still flaking off, made me uncomfortable to use them because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t eating any of the coating. My boyfriend was very displeased about that fact that they were flaking off and he won’t let me buy matte black silverware again just because of that. ... show more
