This HIMI gouache set contains 48 colours with a decent range of brights, darks, midtones, and pastels! Having tested out HIMI gouache once before, I was very excited to try out a more expanded colour range and add to my current set but not grab a massive container of each colour. That's where these 12ml jelly cups come in! They're not too big but not too small! I love how deep the cups are despite being narrow because it helps prevent drying by narrowing out the surface exposure to air. This container is airtight so I imagine it wont dry out if you keep it wet and make sure the lid is on tight. However, if it dries up, you can put water inside of each cup and leave overnight to rehydrate it or use dry with a wet brush. :) Onto peeling the colour lids off and testing each one (the best part of opening a gouache set); most of them were very opaque with the exception of some of the pastels. I found some of the lighter colours (Naples Yellow, Nude, and Lemon Yellow specifically) needed a second coat to truly be opaque. Though, I paint with very thin coats so that is just my personal experience. Every other colour was richly pigmented and performed very well over dark pen marks. Included were three brushes and a plastic palette that both performed very well. I like the variety of the brushes as they allow you to make so many different strokes! There was no shedding from each brush and each one was clearly labeled in size. :) Included was: - One pastel mint coloured storage case - 24 individual gouache cups with a divider in each cup that holds 12ml of paint - One rather accurate colour reference card with colour names and care instructions - One plastic palette with six different divisions - Three pastel mint brushes; one size 8 spade brush, one size 6 flat brush, and one size 4 point brush For the fact alone that these gouache kits usually last me a long time (A little goes a long way with gouache) and the sheer amount of colours in this kit, I'd definitely say the value is there in this set. If you're a beginner artist or a beginner to gouache but want lots of colours to mix and match or a professional that wants something slightly above student grade but doesn't want a massive case to carry around, this set is your best bet! :) ... show more

I've painted watercolor for many years but I don't use gouache much so this was a great opportunity to try it again. First of all, it's a really neat set, not too small. I always like gadgets and sets like this. Very complete with the paints, mixing palette, brushes and a full selection of colors. The colors are so beautiful. I like that in addition to the insert of the color chart, there is another color chart sticker on the bottom although that is difficult to read without spilling the colors. I created my own color chart (photo) so you can see what the real colors look like. Mostly, it depends upon how much you water them down. This is way more colors than I would normally use but they're very pretty. The colors are very creamy and easy to work with. But here you run into some problems. The pans have metal (aluminum?) covers. These are difficult to peel back. Also, as each pan is a double, very easy to cross-contaminate the colors. This kind of spoils the effect if you get your colors all muddy. My final comment is that I would normally test the colors for light-fastness by placing a color sample in a sunny window for some time to see if they fade. I haven't done this step yet. I do paint with regular watercolor paints , but am not terribly familiar with using gouache paints. This is a really extensive set of gouache paints . There are all ranges of colors in this set. Some classic colors and some that are unique when one thinks of a regular watercolor set. Nothing wrong with that ! This set comes with a really nice airtight leakproof case . There are also a few paint brushes included . Inside the case are the paints , brushes and a very nice sized palette to mix your paints. It all fits together very well. My biggest problem was peeling the foil type sealers off of each section of paints! I found that rather daunting as those seals were really on there tight ! The jelly paints are interesting. They are so different than the water colors I’m used to , but I did find them easy to dilute and mix to get various additional colors. I did a quick holiday sketch painting for this review and found the paints to able to used for a sheer, or for a more opaque look. I was impressed with how easily these paints lifted! I didn’t expect that . I used some inexpensive mid grade paper and I was still able to do a little bokeh effect while the paint was wet and also had no issue whatsoever with lifting the paint when it was dry. I had even accidentally dropped a brush of dark brown paint on the mostly dry painting and I was able to lightly scrub and remove most of that paint ! The paper didn’t like the scrubbing LOL! But the paint lifted really well. I’m looking forward to trying different techniques with this set of paints . I’m happy with this set. Seems like good quality paints in a really nice case.
