The base is at two different heights. If you are using this to mark two sides of a square tube then you lines will be 1/16'' off. Kinda ruins the purpose if you ask me.

Handy little tool to mark both sides of a plank and that is my primary use for it. Since it is metric and I work with imperial, do not use it much for measuring. If there was a mechanism like a twist knob to quickly separate and join the two pieces, probably would have more use for it. A small screw that can be easily lost deters me from using it to its full potential. ... show more

    • Mostly Square - Works with one small issue.

The square arrives in a nice padded box, in two separate pieces. One side is your typical "L" shaped square. The other piece is the sort of triangle shaped piece. Both of those pieces are well made of solid metal and their corners are square. You screw these two pieces together (screws and hex wrench are provided) and now you have a tool that can hang over an edge and be used to trace lines around outside corners. This works perfectly. The minor problem is interior corner formed by the two pieces is not 90 degrees. This shouldn't cause a problem when used as described above, but could cause issues if you need to use that interior corner to mark 90 degrees. This wouldn't be a common use, but it is something to be aware of. As long as you keep this limitation in mind, the tool will serve you well. ... show more

    • Better than many of the import rulers
I had previously ordered a 3 piece set of rulers similar to these, but the measurements were a bit spotty at best. This ruler is much more accurate. Could be a fluke, since I often wonder if all these are manufactured from the same place, but for me it works well. The angled bevels for 45 and 60 degree bevels are so-so. They are just not wide enough to be really useful. I haven't found a use for the stair gauge pencil holder they provide. Not sure what the point is since it doesn't seem to be centered on a particular measurement other than 1/2" if used on-edge. The notch for the pencil isn't beveled very aggressively such that you need to use a fine tip if you want to use it. Several of my carpenters pencils sharpen to a 45 degree point, which isn't fine enough to use, and don't end up touching the surface of the workpiece. ... show more
