  • A Perfect Example of a Book Written With Love
I am interested in creating my own all natural beauty/body care after having had the privilege of working at a store carrying those particular products. They were such high quality and addictive, but VERY expensive. I am jobless at the moment so I wanted to see if I could find a book with good recipes for homemade/natural body products but that would also not break the bank. This book doesn't have a plethora of recipes, it also does not cover every kind of body care product out there, however the recipes that it does have are sound and are very enticing/interesting. I have a handful of these kind of books, although truthfully I haven't read them all and even with this one I have yet to attempt any recipe, however I like the way this one is written and printed (as funny as that may sound). I will also say I haven't read this book cover to cover, but I went through pretty much each page and skimmed its content. This book was clearly written with love which is evident in the (forgive me if I am getting the name wrong) Rosemary's Dream Cream (mostly meant for the face, but can also be used for the body) which seems to be the author Rosemary Gladstar's creme de le creme or just plain favorite recipe in this book. She gives useful information like why it's better to use fresh versus shelf stable aloe vera, why you shouldn't use aloe vera on a staph infection and some pretty detailed troubleshooting on how to proceed if the cream doesnt emulsify properly on the first try. Please forgive me Rosemary, if I butchered that last piece of information, like I said before I skimmed the book, but like I said for this particular recipe there's a ton of care and attention within. What I most like about this recipe is that Rosemary recommends applying this cream with love and to not judge the body its being used on that that is the secret to the magic of this particular cream. But circling back to the recipes I am excited most of all to make Rosemary's Face Cream, the astringent or toner ( I haven't decided which one i want to try yet), and the Herbal Hair rinses. To be perfectly frank, each one sounds interesting. Thank-you Ms. Rosemary for this delightful book, I just wish it were longer! Have you ever thought about creating more recipes and producing another book? Maybe you should , I would gladly take a bite!😉 ... show more

  • This Book Saved My Skin
I've used a few of the recipes out of here and learned a lot. If you are wanting to get into making your own beauty products, DO get this book. It is perfect for beginners and for people who want to learn about the importance of being beautiful for yourself! It's definitely a pagan biased book and references the Goddess so that was a nice touch for me, as I am pagan. Be aware though, that if you are going to be making the items from this book or even making your own items, you will be spending quite the penny on materials. But I plan on giving out stuff as Christmas presents so in the end I am not out too much considering all the gifts I wont be trying to buy for the people in my life. She does also include a list in the back of the book where you can get materials online which was helpful as I only knew one of them. All in all, this is really a great little book and after following some of her guide lines and using some of the products, my face is the clearest it's been since puberty, and I am a pimply and oily person. ... show more

  • We made an amazing face cream based on this book
My sister, niece and a friend came over for a personal-care-product-making-day and we used this gem as a guide. I say, "gem" because Rosemary's Perfect Face Cream was indeed perfect. I mean to say, just outstanding. We did tweak it a bit but only for fun...it didn't need tweaking. We also tried the shampoo and had a spectacular failure, but there we didn't follow her recipe. When we added the castille soap to our strong herbal decoction, it hissed, smoked and turned the decoction from a gorgeous maroon to a grey-green mix that smelled like ammonia. We think it was that one of the herbs (we're thinking hibiscus) that we used in the decoction clearly had a chemical reaction in a weird way with something in the castille soap. So, rather than add castille to the rest of the decoction, we added some maple syrup, drank the decoction, put the castille away for later experimentation and enjoyed the perfect face cream. But I would like to say, our shampoo fiasco was NOT the fault of the book. We were experimenting w/ our own herb mix and overall it made us all feel like (good and poor at the same time) witches, impressed upon us the joy and expedition that is chemistry and we came away with a fantastic face cream, a good sense of adventure and a day well spent. I look forward to more solo & group experimentation using this book as a guide. Great to introduce younger folk and older folk alike to the joys of products that, not only do not contain endocrine-dispruptive chemicals, but the reality that we can make them ourselves. Thanks to the author. ... show more
