Description

After reading so many bad revues, I was reluctant to watch this film, although I had always wanted to. Glad I did. I loved everything about it. Set in the 1880s, Loren plays an actress, a lovable lady of dubious character. Quinn runs a rag tag traveling repertory theatre and is Loren's lovelorn cuckold. As they tour the west performing classics for rough men, Loren, wearing incredible outfits by Edith Head, makes trouble for herself and the entire troop putting them on the run. Great supporting cast including an adult Margaret O'brien. Sumptuous sets and costumes with fine acting and good script, the film is engaging and does not disappoint.     • Nice color pic. Story lacks substance
I just don't care for that female actress. She seems self centered. Story lacks substance. The colors are great though. Good job of restoration.

This is an offbeat western that has always had a special place in my heart. They do not make them like this any more! The Healy Theatrical Troup travels the west dodging creditors, indians, and outlaws between giving performances that wow the audiences of small western towns. The scenery is picturesque. The acting is terrific. Quinn is great as the sensitive actor who leads the troup and loves Sophia (who doesnt). Steve Forrest is the outlaw who wins Sophia in a poker game and tags along to "protect his investment". And Sophia is at her best in a comedy that showplaces her strong points. Her early comedies have always been my favorites. It is a humorous well thought out piece that was long overdue coming out on dvd. Bravo! ... show more

    • Two dolls in the same crazy movie.
I loved it because I wanted to see Margaret O'Brien as a teen. So lovely and incredibly smart. I guess we grew up together, far apart. Beyond that need of mine--at an old age--the movie is pretty silly and pretty. Loren always insisted in looking perfect, never ageing. Perfect Hollywood doll. Two dolls in the same crazy movie. Not exactly your usual covered wagon movie. ... show more
