I have used the hammer method of setting snaps for years with variable results and fairly regular frustration at bending the crimp shaft no matter how careful I was. Plus the snaps broke off my boat cover with regularity because the crimp shaft wasn’t centered or I mashed the fabric. All that is behind me now. I had to put these snaps on curtains for out bus conversion anter a failed attempt to glue velcro pads on. I debated spending the extra on this tool but figured it would beat having to take each curtain down and hammering the snaps on over 50 times. These clamps cut the time in half if not more! This is really just a couple press things welded to a vice grip but it works fantastic so no complaints, also the included snaps are a great addition. I used this to help install a soft top on a Triumph Spitfire and I could not have done it without them.

this product works as intended but because of the way the tool was designed it leaves a simple in the snap. This means the snap doesn’t look one the one it replaced. On the upside, using it on my boat cover I can easily tell which snap was the one I replaced making it easier to know the orientation of the boat cover.     • Punching the hole was the hard part

I am installing snaps in a tarp for a boat. My tarp is way too big, which is ok. I am folding the material 3 times to give the snap a sturdy amount of material to get crimped onto so it won't rip out. Getting a hole thru 3 layers of tarp is no easy task, but once done it works great. I drill a hole (9/64th) for the male side and screw it into the boat, then mount the female snap into the material. I use an awl to make the hole, put the snap together on either side of the tarp and crimp it. All done, on to the next one. ... show more
