Your 12 inches from any heat with the handle length. It' s stainless steel which means it will last basically forever. One reviewer said his handle rusted, that reviewer is probably a troll, stainless does not rust. The silicone brush holds the barbecue sauce and applies it in a nice and easy stroke. You don't have any issues with adding bristles to your food. Some other reviewers complained the silicone bristles wore out much to quickly. Again, if you get to close to the heat that could happen. HQY sells a replacement 3 pack of the silicone bristles for $5.99. They pop in and out in a second. I bought the brush, and the 3 pack. For a grand total of $12.98, I have the handle and four sets of bristles. I can do multiple types of sauce or baste while I am cooking different things.     • Good solid brush
This is a good brush. Silicone bristles are same size as other brushes that I have. They seem to be anchored into the metal handle well. I kind of wish I had found a longer one, but this works fine if you don't dawdle over the grill for too long! I can't rate durability since I just got the brush.

Great basting brush. I love the weight and feel so much better than the plastic basters. Only one downside, you can not leave it sitting in your smaller saucepans. You will need a bigger saucepan otherwise it falls out due to the weight of the handle.

I use this all the time with my grill now. Was getting tired of using short handled one from the kitchen and getting burned. This has been great and can wash in dishwasher with no issues.

This brush just slaps! you can slap the meat, the veggies, the grill, the consenting adults in the area. Holds up well after washing. Handle is well made.

Great little basting brush! I was surprised and pleased with the quality, especially if you factor in price. The handle is firm and you can hook it on your BBQ and the bristles are silicone and can be removed for cleaning. Overall this brush does the job for my grilling needs. Very happy with it.
