Every piece in this set is impressive in its own right. I've been wanting to buy something to hold down my burgers and bacon, etc for a very long time and I can't believe I waited this long, it cuts down the cooking time for bacon and reduces spatter. The spatula is larger than I thought it would be (in a good way) and the shaker is made of stainless steel, I've never seen one made out of stainless steel before it works flawlessly. As others said, the sides are too tall creating a minimal thickness of 13/32" out of the box. I took a 4" hand grinder and reduced them to approximately 1/4". I think the width is also a little excessive (>6") unless you have very large hamburger buns. All said it is well made, the spatula is nice and heavy and it makes smash burgers that are delicious. Cuisinart should have designed this a little better and shouldn't require modification to be usable for its intended purpose. ... show more

Bought this set to make smash burger on cast iron griddle on outdoor grill. My set came with same Cuisinart model # CSBK-400 on the box, but the smasher has a flat bottom (without the lip described in the Amazon post and that some reviewers complained about in reviews). I thought the lip would be useful to help with smash pressure/thinness, but mine was flat so have to rely on eye-ing it. Some of the first ones came out a bit on the thick side - but will get the hang of it. The flat surface gives you more flexibility in how to use this smashers (e.g., grilled/pressed sandwiches). The pressing squares are very handy to use. Keeps the meat from sticking and makes the process to move through the burgers quickly a breeze. Will likely buy or make more when I run out. We liked the shaker to make our own seasoning - and can quickly season all with a couple of shakes (versus having to shake 3 different spices separately). The spatula also nice (but handle is a bit short for over hot grill). It is nice and wide - and pretty sharp. Easily slides under for good, quick flips. ... show more

So good. I was looking for a good way to make some nice crispy smashed burgers in the cast iron pan. Found it! This thing is heavy duty. Here are a few recommendations: - Never wash with soap. I never use soap on my cast iron stuff. I "wash" them with hot water and a scrub brush. I dry and then coat with a light coating of vegetable oil. - This set comes with some pre cut parchment paper squares. You're going to want to use these, at least for the first side of each burger. The raw meat will stick. These paper squares may seem a bit cumbersome, but you'll get it. - I roll my ground beef mixture in a ball, put it in a very hot cast iron pan, directly on a pat of butter that has already melted a little pool in the pan. Then I press it down firmly to thin that burger out. I typically let the first side sear and cook for about a minute thirty to two minutes. Then I flip the burger and keep pressure on it to keep it flat. Side two is also about a minute thirty to two minutes. They're easy to cook through at this thickness but what you really want to go for is that sear. You actually get a nice light crunch to the outside of the burger that adds some great flavor and texture. - Have a plate with a paper towel on it to set the smasher off to the side. It will have burger juice all over it so this helps avoid the mess. - This is NOT for the grill. You will smash the ground beef right through your grates. This is for flat surfaces only. - DO NOT put this in the dishwasher. You're only asking for trouble in terms of rust and the wooden handle deteriorating. The burger flipper is an added bonus with this set. A nice chisel front edge to this heavy duty tool flips your smashed burger with ease. Would I recommend? 100%. This is the one you want. It's heavyweight, heavy duty and if you take care of it, should last forever. Get smashing! ... show more

Well made, complete set- everything you need for smash burgers. HOWEVER, the bottom of the iron, the part that actually smashes, has a lip, so it's not flat. You can only smash so far and then the rim hits the pan or griddle or whatever you use, and the burger can't get any thinner. I think that's a major design flaw because you can't let the burger cook with the iron sitting on it so it stays flat, and it doesn't get thin enough. The flipper is freaking awesome though, I use it for nachos and loaded fries. 😂 ... show more
