Description

If your gas cylinder has worn out on your chair or stool, you may want to consider this Heavy Duty option. This replacement office chair gas lift cylinder is more heavy duty than standard chair gas lift cylinders. It's a great replacement option for damaged or worn out gas lifts on office chairs, task chairs, executive chairs, & more! While this gas cylinder will fit the majority of chairs and stools, it will not fit all. Please measure your original cylinder to be sure. Minimal dimensional differences shouldn't alter performance of lift when installed. Always remove gas cylinder with care and never heat or puncture.

  • We'll give it time; seems solid, but WATCH your chair measurements
After dealing with a failed "heavy duty" piston on a brand new chair, and a poor replacement on another (feels very flimsy) this piston seems much more solid, both the base and the stem. It won't work for me, but an honest product review is 5 stars. The main problem is user error. I'm 6'2" tall, and my tall office chair combined with the size of this piston and it's 5" base, turns my office chair into virtually a barstool. I didn't pay close enough attention to the dimensions - my bad, it's already installed, so I'm won't try to return this. Even at the lowest setting, I'm towering over my desk, with my elbows being perhaps 3-4 inches above it. The only way I can use it, is to lower the arm rests, causing my shoulders to sag (which gets painful in minutes), or work with my elbows elevated, and wrists pointing down to the keyboard (carpel tunnel, here we come). I'll probably have to replace this piston again because of it's height, but again, that's on me. There's a reason that none of these vendors have an instruction on how to measure the size of your existing piston, vis-a-vis their new one offered for sale. The piston's base could be longer or shorter than the original, the bottom of the base may fit deeper into the chairs base, affecting height, and the top of the piston's stem, may also fit more or less deep. It's not just the 5" stroke that you must match to predict the finished max and min height of your chair after the new piston is installed, but all of the other variables as well. ... show more

  • Low Chair No More
My Office Chair was too low, but it is a great chair and I didn't want to replace it. I specifically chose the Heavy Duty 5" Stroke Replacement Office Chair Gas Lift Cylinder Pneumatic Shock - S6111-HD because it was a slightly taller part. It works perfectly and I'm at the perfect comfortable height for my 5'11" height. You will need to look up YouTube videos to learn how to install it. ... show more

  • A few of the reviews were from bigger guys so I figured it'd be perfect. The first time it was delivered to my ...
I own a small business. The first thing I bought when I got a little bit of money was a new chair for my office. This was a couple years ago and the cylinder eventually pooped out. So I bought this one because I'm 350lbs and I wanted one that other big dudes said they've used. A few of the reviews were from bigger guys so I figured it'd be perfect. The first time it was delivered to my office, the package was opened and the cylinder was gone. I contacted Amazon customer support and they refunded my money, I placed the order again, and Amazon upgraded my shipping to overnight. Great customer service by the way! The cylinder came today so I looked at youtube videos on how to take apart the chair to replace the cylinder. Looked easy enough; just the pressure of my body holding the whole thing together all the time basically. The guy doing the demo made it look so easy - he tapped the bottom of the chair and it popped apart, then he used a pipe wrench to easily twist out the other end that feeds into the bottom of the chair. Replace the cylinder, reassemble, and boom. The video was a minute and a half. It has taken me 2 and a half hours to complete this project. First, because I am a man of advanced size, the pressure of the cylinder into the base was so much that I was not able to simply tap the chair bottom to get it to pop apart....nor could I whack it with a mallet sufficiently....I ended up swinging a 10lb rubber coated weight plate and breaking the cylinder, which did indeed dislodge it from the chair base, but now I had the plastic shell from the original shell still wedged in the chair base. I took it into the workshop, propped it up on a couple wooden boxes, and used an 8lb sledgehammer to knock it free. After a hearty celebration which included several expletives, I noted I had already been doing this for a half hour. Slightly longer than the minute and a half video. The rest of the cylinder was wedged in the chair so I grabbed a pair of large channel lock pliers (not the pipe wrench the guy in the demo used) and went at it. The cylinder would not twist, even with all my strength. By the way, I am a superheavyweight powerlifter and strongman competitor. I ended up snapping the channel lock pliers, annihilating my knuckles in the process. That was it. I threw the whole chair and all the battered pieces into the trash outside and went to Office Depot to buy a new chair altogether. After test driving every big and tall chair they had, nothing fit me quite like my original back at the office, so I decided to take a chill pill, go buy a pipe wrench, and give this one more try. Spending another $300 on an office chair was too rich for my blood anyway. The hardware store only had one employee in a newly remodeled store, so nobody could find anything. I eventually tracked down a pipe wrench and gulped my emotions down when swiping my debit card to pay for the $50 wrench. The cheaper wrenches weren't in stock. Why would they be? Back to the office, retrieve the chair and its components from the trash, and take it inside the workshop yet again. The chair is on its side on the ground and I'm standing on one of the arms to stabilize it while going to town on this cylinder shaft with the pipe wrench. It will absolutely not move. After emptying the entire contents of my work cupboards onto the ground, I find the WD40 and spray the cylinder. I take this opportunity while the oil penetrates the cylinder to practice my deep breathing and relaxation techniques. I'm almost two hours in now. With the oil setting for 10 minutes, I reclamp the wrench and try again. Success! The smallest of twists. Subsequent twists with the wrench are feeling easier now and it's only a matter of time before the cylinder is freed. My sweat mixes with the oil penetrant and the gods have chosen to bless me with a successful extraction of the cylinder. I spike the cylinder into the ground like I scored the game-winning touchdown and threw the pipe wrench down onto it, which bounced and hit my shin. After tending to my busted shin and practicing more relaxation techniques, I quickly assemble the chair with the new cylinder. The base is dented significantly because of my exuberant hammering. The cylinder itself props up my chair so high that my feet almost dangle. It feels pretty secure. In conclusion, the cylinder works as advertised and Amazon customer service was great. However, be prepared for a battle when extracting the existing cylinder. I have had a day. ... show more
