These strips work perfectly for setting your water softener correctly. I highly recommend them. Simply measure your water hardness at an exterior hose spigot and set your softener to whatever that ends up reading. Mine measured at 7. After your softener has been running for awhile you can take a measurement from inside the house to see if it’s working correctly. Inside the house measured at 0 so I know my softener is working. Important: Do not measure at the kitchen sink. Many homes do not soften the cold water in the kitchen this will lead to incorrect readings and you will end up thinking your softener isn’t working correctly. Test at a bathroom faucet. The water in my township is hard. It measures 13.5. I soften the water inside my house and the bottom strip that I used to test that shows a reading of zero. I do not soften the water leading to my exterior water faucets and the top strip that I used to test that water shows that the water is very hard. Worked great at first, but several months later gave me false readings making me believe my water softener had issues. After spending 2 weeks troubleshooting/ emptying it 2 times, I found the test strips were indeed at fault. Cost me a lot of $$, stress and time.
