Description

The classic guide for dealing with grief and loss. Daily reflections to find solace in our own lives, and comfort in the connection of sharing these meditations with countless others. After the focus on planning and outpouring of love from family and friends in the immediate aftermath following the loss of a loved one, we are left to enter a new version of our lives where someone important is missing. For days, months, years, the pain of the loss can crash in all at once. It is tempting to push that wave of grief back and soldier on with our new lives, but the loss will never lose its controlling power if we don’t find the courage and love to face it. Meditating on the loss, along with the rush of love that comes with it, gives us a chance to rejoice in the life that was shared, and to look forward in which memories of our loved ones continue to bless us. The short, poignant meditations given here follow the course of the year, but it is not a necessity to follow them chronologically. They will strengthen, inspire, and give comfort for as long as they are needed. Read more

  • Powerful thoughts for those grieving. Comforting.
Short, easy to read passages. Helpful way to start my day.

  • Surprisingly Helpful
I'm not one to have much use for or confidence in daily meditations, but I've been reading this text for a month now and am finding it to be very helpful. I don't read it at the same time each day - some days it's first thing in the morning; other days not until late at night. However, there's something comforting about having this "routine" during such a time of turmoil, and I've been amazed a number of times about how that day's meditation lines up exactly with my mood for the day. I do agree with another reviewer that the text could stand to be shifted away from the spine to make it easier to read the text along the center of the book, but that's so minor. The size of the book is perfect to toss in my purse or leave out on the bed, and I'm pleased with it's quality. I highly recommend it! (For reference, I've had three losses within two years - my father in 6/22 and two friends in 8/23 and 11/23) ... show more

  • The best book ever for anyone grieving a loved one
A friend sent me a copy of this many years ago after I lost my daughter to a brain tumor. I still read it and it has a permanent location on my nightstand. I keep several copies in my home at all times and gift them to others when they experience a significant loss. I have probably purchased 40 copies over the years. The book does not give advice or preach. Rather, it has a page for each day of the year and provides a reflection and acknowledgement of feelings when missing a loved one. One page per day. In the early days of grief, that was all I could handle. This book reminds you that your feelings are your own and that you can get through the pain one day at a time. ... show more

  • Really helps the grieving process.
This book was given to me after the death of my husband. The spiritual insight really helped me understand what I was going through. I have since given it to many others in need. Hope it helps them also.

  • Great Book with a lot of truths in it.. but it was standard size
Great Book with a lot of truths in it.. but it was standard size. I know it was written in part of the product description but really, who looks at those. IMHO other than standard size should be written in the main header (description) None the less I am enjoying it and this time in my life anything positive or thought provoking is welcomed. ... show more

  • Great book for anyone who has experienced a loss
Bought as a gift for my Mom. She reads it every day. Finds most of the readings to be helpful, some more than others, but that's to be expected. Highly recommend it. Not overly religious, despite ranking high on Christian books, so don't let that dissuade you.
