  • Quality has dropped. They don't work like their former ones
8-23-20, 3rd purchase and review of this item. As with everything anymore, the quality has dropped, and the product is now useless. The plastic is stiffer, and the black rubber grippers are now a hard plastic that has no grip. Even though these were pricey, they used to work, so I made sure to order from the same place each time. Waste of money. Updating this to 5 stars, even though I just had to replace the first one. It broke in half after a couple of years of daily use. The next three days were miserable, as I waited for the new one! I have determined I cannot survive without this amazing little tool in my filter box! Got my new one, and life is good again! Ok, at first I thought it wasn't working, but once I learned how to use it, it's great. Filters come out perfect. I just had to learn to push down as I pinched it together. ... show more

  • Very handy
I have an issue with separating paper products which includes paper coffee filters. Don’t use licked fingers! This little gadget works very well.

  • They don’t work anymore!
I’ve had a pair of these tongs that work great. They peel off 1 coffee filter every time. I bought another pair recently for my vacation house and they don’t work at all! It’s the identical product, same brand and all, but they won’t pick up a filter!

  • The new tips don't work!
This is my second one. After a year the first one broke in two pieces. But I liked the way it worked. After reading recent reviews I found some complained that the rubber tips didn't grab the filters, simply sliding across it. I decided to take a chance and ordered a new one. When it arrived, I tried it and found it wouldn't pick up a filter. Examining the tips, I saw that they have changed to a harder rubber! Evidently they haven't even tested their new supply of tips! Thanks to those previous reviewers, I saved my broken one, and removed the old tips. They came off quite easily, but removing the new ones was quite difficult due to the much stiffer rubber. With the old tips on the new one it works as good as the old one. Wouldn't recommend buying this if you don't have old tips like I did! Would give it one star if a first time buyer. ... show more

  • Junk
Does not pick up a filter. Completely useless and a waste of money. I have had one in the past that worked great! This one look like my old one but doesn’t pick up anything.

  • Great little tool! BUT...
We used our Harold Filter Separator 3x a day for a year, and found it effortless and a time-saver. Then we broke it (our fault!) Some reviewers claim that theirs didn't work at all. Maybe, like my husband, they started out using it in the wrong way. (A demo picture would have made it clear to everyone.) Rather than carefully trying to pry away a coffee filter by the paper's edge, you hold the tool in the center of the filter and pinch. Only one paper will separate from the stack for you. After my husband saw it demonstrated, it became indispensable in our kitchen. We store ours in the box with the filters. Ours finally broke because Dear Husband was in the habit of placing his fingers midway on the skinny weakest part of the plastic, and pinching. It eventually cracked from stress. The ridges are there for a reason ;-) Super-gluing it back together didn't work. So now I will be ordering a replacement, and this time we'll be placing our fingers on the wide ridged parts, where it's strongest. Oh well, live and learn! Update 8/6/17 - Now that we've corrected user error, our replacement filter seperator is holding up just fine. Glad we have it! Update 4/8/18 - Our replacement tool broke in March. I deliberated on spending five bucks every year to eighteen months, and decided to try something else this time. It's a really handy tool that I miss!! Instead, DH pulled the rubber feet off the tool and cleverly slipped those onto the ends of a wooden clothespin. Not as nice to operate...but free. ... show more
