  • Beautiful toy
This is truly a beautifully made toy. The vibrant colors, workmanship, and durability were all evident when I first unwrapped it. My almost 2-year old daughter is still too young for the stated age range (3 yrs and up), but she is still drawn to this toy. She is starting to mimic counting and calling out numbers, so we thought this abacus would be a fun way to reinforce her interest in counting. I am becoming a big fan of Hape toys because of their use of water-based paints on wood, unlike other toy companies that use chemical-based paints. This is not the type of toy that your child will put in his or her mouth, but I still feel better choosing "safer" toys that my child will be touching. I wanted to give this toy 5 stars, but I noticed from reading the product box that this toy is made in China. I just have to trust that Hape does quality control and that their China factory upholds its environmental standards. But because of the misgivings I felt, I had to knock off 1 star for now. ... show more

  • Its really nice looking, but the beads...
Its really nice looking, but the beads are really light weight and so when my kid moves one, a bunch of the come with it if he's not careful. My niece has the Ikea one and as it turns out, the beads are heavy wood, I mean heavy enough to make them really nice to move and they stay in place once moved, these ones just move around everywhere. ... show more

  • Captures babies attention
Sturdy, can be used laid down for baby to use while on tummy time. Highly recommend for 4 month old and beyond.

  • Best abacus option I found for a young baby
I like that it's made of wood and supposedly safe paints and finish. The edges are rounded and my baby hasn't hurt herself on this one. So far she enjoys pushing the beads back and forth and the entire abacus on the floor. The quality could be better, as one of the wood counting beads looks smushed and is not round. This is just picky, but I also wish it had all the colors of the rainbow, including purple/violet. Kids' products often only have blue, green, red and yellow. At least this also has orange! ... show more

  • Will continue this until I find a bigger in size one
I wanted to buy an abacus see my boy's interest in it in an enrichment class. He is 18mth. This was the toughest one ( base on reviews on amazon) I searched all abacus with no budget in mind as I wanted one to last. All others seem to fall apart beads all over only this was being raved about .so I bought. Pros Colorful enough to attract his attention Seem sturdy COns Smaller than I expected Most annoying thing is when I count the 1st round, my fingers will somehow hit the other beads in the next row n move them all over. ( no matter how careful I m) *i am considered petite in size so no I don't have clumsy fingers But other than all these I'm still using this daily till I find a bigger sturdy one ( will continue w this) ... show more

  • it is sturdy and no reason to think it won't be in ...
I think my Granddaughter was a little young for this one (under 2 years of age) she moves the beads around once in a while. I am hoping she starts using it more when she is a little older. it is sturdy and no reason to think it won't be in good shape a year or two from now.

  • When counting is also visual
I purchased this Abacus as a gift, and in the process was given a synergistic reality I had not thought of. Many children look upon the world now as colors, not just type on a page, and in their grouping and counting development years, this Abacus was a very valuable tool as its color representations were easy to remember. It is sturdy, surprisingly so, the size in the pics does not represent its larger form, easy for young and old to manipulate, and very well finished indeed. As usual, I give it either one of two outcomes as a review closing, this purchase... Winner. ... show more

  • Great product, great price
We bought this a little over 4 months ago and it is used nearly every day by our almost 3 year old. I have no complaints, and there has been no issue with the quality or durability thus far. We have had no problem with the size of the abacus, and my daughter can easily move it from one room to another as she feels comfortable. We bought it for the sale price of 12$ and I feel that was more than fair. ... show more
