  • GREAT PHOTOS AND A VERY INFORMATIVE, GORGEOUS BOOK!
As an avid antique purse collector, I am always looking to learn more about my passionate hobby. Desire successfully expanded my knowledge by providing me with a wide range of information that I had previously been unaware of. Her Glossary taught me so much I did not already know. I love the fact that her book spanned from the very early year 1759 to the present. This is a very comprehensive book with so many gorgeous pictures. If you are a handbag lover, you should not miss owning this gorgeous book! ... show more

Shipment was a little later than expected but received OK. It was during the Christmas season so shipper was probably busier than normal. I would have requested expedited service but shipper offered no delivery upgrades so I took my chances. Arrived on the very day it was presented as a Christmas gift! ... show more

  • We love purses!
Wonderful resource for anyone who loves purses, handbags and pocketbooks, beautifully photographed with a great variety to enjoy! Lovely book replete with distinctive chain handle! LaRee Johnson, author of Ladies' Vintage Accessories.

  • Perfect blend of enjoyable and educational.
As the founder of the Antique Purse Collectors Society, I found this book to be the perfect blend of entertainment and education. The fun begins when you go to pick it up and realize it is made to look like a purse, complete with real chain handle on the spine! However, this is no coffee table volume meant just for looks. Written by an antique clothing consultant, it covers handbags from 1759 to present. It clearly is expensively reproduced, on thick glossy pages with 600+ color photos. While enjoyable and pretty, the author obviously went to great pains to make it meticulously accurate, as evidenced by her bibliography and resources. I particularly appreciated the layout; organized both by time period and medium. Because of this method, it is interesting and easy to see the evolution of each particular style, such as beaded, leather, mesh, skins, textile and plastic. It opens with a selection of historically important bags, culled entirely from her own impressive collection. ... show more

  • Handbag Chic or Handbag Dreck?
Ridiculous collection of some of the worst handbags ever made, with too high values. Was she intending to prop up the values of the most common handbags? What a waste of my $ and the paper the book was printed on.

  • Do Judge This Book By Its Cover!
"Handbag Chic" is a rare package - the inside delivers what the outside promises. The whimsical and creative cover of this book, made to resemble a purse complete with chain handle (indeed the actual purse is featured inside the book), opens to reveal a creative and informative resource for the serious collector or the casual dabbler. The hundreds of beautiful photographs include the works of many designers, both renowned and obscure, and are accompanied by insightful and educational captions. The book is well organized, and is further enhanced by the glossary, index and bibliography sections. This is a great book for anyone interested in vintage clothing and accessories! ... show more

  • DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BAG BOOK-GOOD PICTURES-BAD PRICE GUIDE!
I am really amazed - UPSET AND MISTIFIED at this author and her lack of knowledge on the quality of the VINTAGE-(BACK SECTION OF BOOK) LUCITE~BAKELITE handbags in her book-THE PRICES ARE TOTALLY OUT OF LINE!HIGH ON THE CHEAP-LOW ON THE BEST??? - She has photographed (I am sure at great expense) many plastic purses - yes plastic - not LUCITE OR BAKELITE...- lower quality , poor quality manufacturers and priced them at astronomically high prices ....and yet the great bags with the top-best quality manufacturer names, are put in the same price catagory , or less, and there are very few unusual shapes, colors and designs that we all seek today. She did not go to the collectors and use their bags so that you can really see what was made back then and why they are so sought after today - justifying the high prices for the unusual colors-stones and shapes made. The cost of this book is not the problem , if you want a fancy coffee table book - - the information is.It lacks more in depth information on the history of his kind of bag. The best book out there is the Kate Donner book - but don't waste your money on the new one if you have the old one - it is also the same pictures - but again, the prices are out of line and totally not within todays going numbers. If you want a book for pictures buy Donners book - this one is a total waste of money - maybe for the soft cover, but don't buy this hard cover book unless you want a coffee table book. ... show more
