The pad on the shoulder strap keeps it comfortable. and has a strap fits over the handles of my carry-on for when my shoulder gets tired. This bag is good quality and light. The inside pockets only go halfway to the bottom therefore the items in the pockets cause the sides to be top heavy and cave in. The solution is to not use those pockets! The handy bottom section does not have extra support which then requires lifting the weight off the bag in order to gain access to its contents. I bought this bag to use along with my carry-on luggage. I saw it mentioned in an article and found it on Amazon. Now that I have one, I can't say enough good things. It's well made and completely lined. It has the bottom zip-out area that I can use for extra clothes or for packing extra golf gear--anything that won't break when the bag is set down or dropped. The inside main pocket is very roomy, has a zipped plastic-lined area for wet clothes, and there are all sorts of other inside pockets. I also like the multiple outside pockets for water bottle, phone, etc. The bag is big, but not so large that it can't be stuffed under the seat in front of you. This was the perfect “everything else” bag for vacation. I have a large Vera Bradley bag that I packed all of my clothes, bathing suits and beach towels in. This bag was perfect for my full sized toiletries, hair dryer, medicine(the small bag that comes with was great for meds), jewelry, and two extra pair of shoes (love that there is a separate compartment for shoes) The bag is roomy and comfortable to carry.
