  • Pretty good for wood posts. 18.8lbs is a little light but works fine
Drove 3 sharpened wooden posts with it as soon as i got it. I usually use a pointed spud bar to drive and widen a pilot hole but I chose to drive them as is because the soil was pretty soft and as a test of the tool. A lot easier and faster and kinder to the post than driving with a sledge hammer. With a sledge you usually booger or slightly split he post even if you use a piece of plate steel to protect it and every once in awhile you'll overshoot and whack the handle on the post which can break it Driving with a sledge you've also got to cut your posts to the right length and either stand uphill or use a step ladder or something to reach it to swing, and can't always go as deep. With this you can drive basically as high as you can reach. This is much better. I've got some shoulder arthritis so i found myself wishing it was about 10-15 lb heavier which would do more work without exerting my shoulders so much to generate speed as well as help it drive through harder areas. The cap steel is relatively thick but it's only welded on the outside. But being relatively lightweight and not welded on the inside can be easily fixed with some 7018 rod and some extra steel for more weight if i want too. The 17-in overall height is just enough to do the job. I think one of the ones that's 20 inches are better would have done a better job but this is adequate. I found myself raising a little above the post each time but luckily the opening is large enough I didn't miss. I'll get used to using it before long I'm sure. It will drive a T post to and FAST but I was busting the tops up because it's a bit too much for a t post. This seems like it is ideal for two and a half to four and a half inch sharp wooden posts. Fairly easy to get them 18 to 20 inches in the ground could probably go 4-5 inches further but that's plenty for a hand split line post in my area. We don't seem to have much issue with frost heave in WV. There's hand-driven locust posts in the ground around here that have been there 20 to 40 years. I expect to be putting quite a few more in now that I've got this. I think being able to easily drive my own split posts will pay for the tool many times over because treated wood posts and T posts are quite expensive these days. Edit, ive driven a dozen more and ive had no issue driving 6 foot posts 2 feet deep. Only have to spud a hole when i hit a rock. Got 30-40 more to do. I'm extremely pleased with it. Hard on the shoulders but it's better than hammering, better than digging & tamping, and definitely better than buying and lugging concrete bags. ... show more

  • This really drives posts in.
Size: 18LB Color: Red
This really drove my t-posts in this hard dry clay. I bought the 18 pound driver. It is very sturdy. It made post setting a lot easier. I like everything about this tool, except, I would've liked it to have a longer slide tube. 18" is great, but 24" would be fantastic. But it can still deliver a powerful blow. You can drive a post a lot quicker than other methods with it. It would also be great at setting chain link fence posts. That's what I used my old one for. It doesn't damage those pipe pipe poles like a heavy hammer would. It's a lot cheaper than buying a gas powered driver. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money for just a few posts. ... show more

  • Worked great
Size: 12LB Color: Red
Used this to pound in some metal U posts for a dog fence. Worked much better than using a hammer. Didn't damage the top of the post as much. Glad I bought it because it made the job much easier.

  • This was worth every penny of my investment.
Size: 12LB Color: Black
I have been putting up fence posts and wiring to keep the deer out of my garden. This tool certainly is a timesaver and a safer way to drive posts in the ground. It can be a little hard on the elbow if you were pounding two many posts at one time, but almost any work like this for someone, my age is going to be challenging. I believe this tool save me hours on getting the posts in the ground. ... show more
