  • I didn't pay as much as the new price reads.
Because the price went up, I can't say it was a bargain, while it really was a bargain when I bought it. I can feel the power of the sun when I held my hand close to the light. I am sure the light will burn plants if it is too close while the 4x4 area means raise it up, or lower it until it can light up a 4x4 area. You can see where the light fades out. It also can ripen Poblano peppers to become Ancho Chili when they pepper just starts ripening. So it is like setting tomatoes in the window to ripen, while you can see what distance is too hot for plants. At a foot away the peppers were warm and started to wrinkle from drying out, and the hot area can refuse to ripen, and just dry out still green or stay green just in that hot spot. So you might need to be over 18 inches away to ripen things without drying them out. I see this one had a price change since I bought it, and it helps to get a good bargain, while it might be a one time thing, because LED lights keeps the same Lumens for 10 years, and then the light is not as bright. The only LED lights that stop working has a short in the light. I used this light 24 hours a day for more than 3 months and had no problems. In the past 9 months I turned them off by June and July. Then I used it 24 hours a day since the last week in August to ripen Peppers and Tomatoes. I have never had a problem, and I don't imagine I will. ... show more

  • Lights are almost too strong, Great value.
Update midway second season: Crazy good lights, with one slight drawback: their color tone is measured at 3300K and promotes a lot of stretch during flowering. The third picture shows the plant pre-flower flip and nodal spacing is fine. First and second pictures show plant 12 days into flowering in a 4by4 tent with 6 Hyperlite panels set at 35 to 50%. The warm tone of these lights will promote a lot of stretch during flowering as compared to even 3700k tone lights. The stretch is a non-issue if you take it into account and flood the plant with light to take advantage of it later in flowering. Good thing that these lights are simply phenomenal. At their price you can buy enough panels to cover as much if not more canopy as bar fixtures, while retaining the massive intensity these LED boards offer. They feel robust, have a large heatsink, and the glass cover to protect the diodes feels much better than glue spray. Can easily flood the plants with intense light. The warm tone full spectrum is preferable for flowering, but a cooler tone light may be better to have during vege and transition to promote stacked growth. If you supplement these lights with 5000K/6500k LED bar fixtures during vege / transition that would also do the trick. These lights are intense. Too close to the plants and they will complain. The far red diodes will cause spot burns if you are not careful. The driver generates a moderate amount of heat, and above 75% it will begin to get fairly hot. A small fan trained on or above to promote airflow will mitigate most of this. Amazing light within their footprint and 6 inches on either side for a solid 4 sqft of light. One is perfect for a 2by2 tent. One will work, but try two for a 3by3 tent. Four minimum for a 4by4. I now have 6 in my 4by4 for the second season. Amazing coverage and intensity while keeping the lights dimmed to keep driver and board temps down; they hardly feel warm to the touch while the canopy is receiving 600-700 PPFD. At 100%, this will easily exceed 1300. CO2 will be needed to fully utilize these lights. Checked the lights with a PAR meter against some other lights I have and old 4' fluoro tubes. The tubes measured 225-250 PAR at 1 foot away. My other light (240 watt, 3700K tone, bar type) is 600-680 par at 1 foot away. These panels are 800-1200 at 1 foot away. The only drawback is lack of UV, and the ability to switch between a vege and flowering spectrum. If they built a V2.0 with a toggle switch to flip off some of the 3000K lights to promote a cooler tone, and popped in a few UV LED's spread around the board, they would be your one-stop-shop for full cycle growth. Of course, the upgraded panels would probably cost more. Speaking of cost, on sale these lights are hands down the best bang for your buck. The biggest negative I see people complaining about is how they bought their panels on sale, and when they wanted to buy more they were priced normally (100-120). Even full price, these panels are competitive with other offerings considering they run up to 150 watt. Even though the Hyperlite board doesn't use the MOST efficient LED (believe they are 2835's) they run so many of them that they are probably as efficient as other boards using half as many samsung LM diodes being ran at double the wattage. At the very least, the PAR output compared to my electricity bill is very, very nice. ... show more

  • hyperlite/groplanner is the way to go
its a good light for the money. especially if you can catch it on sale. the first one i got didnt work, but hyperlite sent me a replacement. the cool part is that they sent me the wifi version and not just the manual version of it as the replacement. because they are awesome enough to do that, i will be buying a few more of these lights. they are good lights and provide what my plants need for lighting. if someone tells you that leds dont put off any heat, has no clue what they are talking about. all led grow lights put off heat. that being said, this light, just like any light, if you use a fan to provide airflow to the light and driver, heat will not be an issue at all. the fins really do help keep it cooler than it would be otherwise though. the app version of this light is good from what i can tell. i dont have anything else to compare it to, but it does have programmable timer functions, dimmer controls and sends notifications if there is an error or something is about to turn on or off.. i mean, what else do you really need in a light app anyway? ... show more

  • Its grrrreat!!
Update 7/23/22: The 2 black, square 1500 manual dim GPs worked so well for a full cycle that i just purchased 2 more in the updated white rectangular style. New look, same quality, same great value. Original review March 2023: Great light. Bright, nice spectrum, sturdy, quality build. Diodes & driver manufacturer unknown but after 2 weeks of use im no longer concerned. As other reviewer mentioned, GP seems to have built this light with more diodes running @ lower wattage per than typical. GP did not sacrifice efficiency or longevity to squeeze out a few more $ profit per. Thoughtful, well-engineered light at non gougey price point. Well done GP👍. Every light "gets hot", haven't noticed this light running any hotter than any other. Positively reviewed by Migro. Just bought 2nd one to fill out 3x3. Wonderful value, especially if u can catch it on sale. Bought manually dimmable version, not an internet/IOT/app guy, prefer to keep things simple. ... show more

  • Absolutely gets the job done
I used this light in a side by side comparison with my other lights that are $200 and up and this light absolutely did an amazing job in a 2x4 tent!
