  • My GoveeLife is an ice-making beast
I bought this ice machine when my ice maker in my refrigerator stopped working due to a part that is no longer available. I still have the huge ice drawer in the freezer and the in-door ice dispenser--I just needed the ice. Enter GoveeLife. By my measurement, it takes nine cups of water to fill it to MAX, which lasts me about a week. I use the large "cube" size (shaped more like ice bullets). I use filtered water and always empty out the ice maker between uses, so the ice always tastes fresh and delicious. It makes nine of the largest-sized "cubes" at a time, and cranks them out every 5 minutes or so. I let the first batch of "cubes" drop back down into the water to chill the water so it takes less time to make future batches (plus the first batch can be quite wet and freeze back together into a clump if you're not careful to shake your ice drawer every time you add a new batch of ice). I put each batch of ice into the freezer drawer as soon as it drops in the ice maker, since the ice maker itself isn't refrigerated and the ice can start to re-melt if you don't catch it within a couple of batches. Don't bother to buy the ice maker cleaner solution since it comes with directions for how to clean it using white vinegar that works beautifully (I mistakenly used nine cups of white vinegar to clean mine the first time which was not necessary--next time I'll use more like 1 cup). The main thing I don't like about this ice maker is how difficult it is to get the last of the water out of the device when you're done making ice for the day. The plug in the bottom is very difficult for me to remove, and you're cautioned in the instructions not to turn the machine upside down, so it's very awkward and messy trying to remove the water using the plug. So I got a long straw and just suck the water out from the top, then wipe the inside of the machine clean and dry. I leave it open for a couple of days to dry before I close and cover it until next use. There are areas where water goes in the machine that are not visible or reachable and I worry about getting mold in those areas like happened with coffee makers back in the olden days, so I really hope it's all drying out between uses. Running vinegar through every once in a while should help also. I really love this ice maker--it saved me having to buy a new refrigerator just to be able to have an ice dispenser. Oh, I'm a sucker for anything that talks to Alexa, but truthfully, the machine is so well programmed that it turns itself off if it runs low on water and other conditions so I've really never had occasion to talk to it via Alexa, but I have tested the feature and it works well, both with the mobile app and Alexa voice. ... show more

  • So far so Good!!
I love this ice maker. I've used it several times and seems to be holding up well. Fingers crossed it will not break down. It takes 8 minutes to make medium ice. I would prefer smaller ice. However, the small ice is very soft and melts pretty much immediately. I am really impressed with how much ice it makes from just one fill of water. I would definitely reccomend this to someone who doesn't have an auto ice maker in their freezer or doesn't have room for the ice tray. My ice tray is huge so I took it out and bought the counter top device! ... show more

  • Good Machine - Except Lights
This is good little machine. No foul taste to the ice cubes - the cubes are larger than the last ice maker we had. It has a nice appearance. It fits nicely on our kitchen cabinet. HOWEVER....there are two rows of light on top at the back - they are impossible to see - so tiny and if there is ANY sunlight or kitchen light on, you simply can't see them. That is awful. The Start button has no light for 'on'. Had I known this - I would not have bought it - way too hard to see. Very hard to see. Its a tall machine I'm short - so with the operating and setting lights being so tiny, I have to stand on my toes to try and see them. THEN, because you can't see what lights are lilluminated or IF they are......even though it works well, I would not buy it again and don't recommend it. I got it yesterday and am contemplating returning it. ... show more

  • Not all I'd hoped for
I've had this icemaker for about two months now after getting tired of dealing with ice cube trays in the freezer. A countertop icemaker seemed like a quick and convenient way to make sure my drinks were cold in the hot summer months. It does function well but I can't say I'm 100% satisfied with it. To cover the good points first it's a small and compact machine, and should fit comfortably on any counter space. It's reasonably quiet and makes ice at a fast pace with a new batch dropping every 10 minutes or so. There are three available ice cube sizes to choose from. Keep in mind this is not a freezer unit, so it makes the ice and the ice then sits in a basket and slowly melts down with the water running into the tank below and the whole process starts over again. This is "soft" ice so it definitely doesn't last long and will dissolve in water pretty quickly. The machine stops automatically once the ice basket is full and will give you a warning when the water is running low. It has a nice self cleaning option where you just need to add a mixture of water and vinegar and it'll do it all automatically On the bad side, if you're planning on getting this for parties or a larger family, it probably won't keep up with the demand even with the quick 10 minute turn around - the ice melts too quickly and in my house with just two adults we find ourselves constantly emptying the basket especially on the hotter days, then waiting around for the next batch. The machine also has an irritating habit of automatically stopping and giving my an "add water" warning, but when I check it still has water in it. I'm not talking just a tiny bit in the bottom of the tank either - it's still a good 1/4 to 1/3 full yet the machine flat out refuses to make any more ice until I fill the tank back to the top again. It's very annoying to have to keep topping it up and restricts the flow of ice even more! Overall I can't say I would recommend this. It does work, but it's not as efficient as I had hoped. If I could do it again, I'd look at some larger, more expensive models, and pay the extra. It's worth a look if you are on a budget and don't need much ice though ... show more
