  • Great Antenna For The Price
Style: JPC-12
I picked up this antenna for portable use at a park or wherever. It is pretty easy to set up and tune. I have only used it on 20m so far, but it works pretty well.. I had no trouble chatting with my friend in WA state from MO on 10 watts. I have made other contacts as well, even into Canada. I would have no issues recommending this antenna to anyone looking for something lightweight, portable and easy to deploy. ... show more

  • For what it is, this antenna works and is very portable
Style: JPC-12
I have been playing with the PAC-12 antenna in my back yard for about a week now and have decided that I mostly like it a lot. On 17 meters, I can remove the coil and shorten the whip a little and have a decent 17 meter ground mounted vertical. It was acceptable on 20 and 30 meters but would have benefited from longer ground radials. I didn't try it on 40 meters as the weak radial system would not have made for a good test. I did attach a hand wound choke/balun at the antenna,12 turns of RG58 on a 240 toroid core, and fed it with 50 feet of RG58. I separated the supplied radial ribbon out into four separate lines. I was able to feed it with 95-100 Watts, and it performed better than expected, especially on 17 meters. I did use an antenna analyzer to tune it (AA-170). You 'can' tune it with an SWR meter but be prepared for a lot of trips between the radio and the antenna. For what this claims to be, it is definitely a keeper, just keep in mind that more and longer ground radials are important below about 17 meters. Edit added: I am liking this thing even more now. I found that if the loading coil is moved to the bottom, less inductance is needed for resonance. I have used this on 30 and 20 meters with very good results after moving the coil to the bottom. Updated: I have left the PAC-12 in my back yard, two miles from the ocean, for about 5 weeks now. I did notice some rust looking stains on the collapsible antenna part. It got harder to shorten and lengthen so I did a light rub down with WD-40, life was good after that. The antenna is intended for temporary portable operations, but it is good to know that it can withstand longer use. I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Pretty good
Style: JPC-12
I'd give it a 5 if the carbon fiber part of the base with the feed point was secured better to the aluminum housing. Maybe they were allowing for home repair by doing so but you need to hold it while twisting the spike on it off and/or the tube(s) above it, otherwise you will be twisting the wires inside and possibly breaking wire connections off of solder points. If they intended to allow for easy access to the inside of the housing then they should have made the extra step of creating a joing that snaps into place that won't allow it to twist. At the very least say something about it in the instructions. Fortunately I caught this happening in I've figured out where I need to be so I can quickly change bands. The SWR for me is extremely low on all bands, like sub 1.2:1. I use a piece of window screen as a counterpoise and have wetter than normal soil where I usually set it up. Yes it's a compromise antenna like so many but if you need something portable and quick this is a good option. I'd prefer to go up at least 20' and pull up a wire antenna but don't always have that option. ... show more

  • Great product
Style: JPC-12
Used it and tested, great product, it works just as expected. Lightweight, compact when stored, easy to mount, and easy to tune. It's just great to put it in a backpack and travel anywhere with a QRP radio, in a matter of minutes you're ready to QSO. In the future I'll test it for POTA/SOTA activations. Maybe add a small ruler in the bag to measure the lengths for fine tuning. ... show more

  • This is not a joke.
Style: JPC-12
I purchase last year because I wanted a antenna that would be easy to pack and put up. This is that and more. I was going to used a G5RV for field day and for some reason it did not like the location, I had this with me so it went up tuned and I made 200 contacts that night in the train wreck condition we had that night. This last Saturday I got 84 contact on POTA. I made DX to France, England, Greece. Sweden Belize, Virgin Island Columbia. on this 13" antenna. If I have a drawback is the counter poise gets tangled and take a few to straighten out. This has been in the Wind and the Rain... Took it. I have the Dipole version and I have not yet set it up. because this works so well by itself. ... show more
