First impressions: not cheap feeling or cheap looking, this is a solid little unit, it has weight, super easy to set up and use with the Home app, great daytime color picture, night vision is bright and clear, no subscription needed for live video and audio, comes with 3 hours of video/audio history again with no subscription, people/car/pet/motion detectionand and relevant notifications. This thing looks great and functions extremely well. This is the 3rd camera I bought for my home this far. I love the Nest/Google ecosystem and it's really easy to set up. I also got the Nest aware service to store video history. Almost all of my products are Google, so I was excited to get cameras for the house. This camera is pretty good. Pointing it far away, the pixelation isn't that great. If you're using it for a room that's relatively small or medium sized, then you will like it. I don't like that it does not connect to the nest app because the nest app I feel was better than Google home. Google home will soon get the same software buttons that are on nest ... show more

    • You can't record any 24/7 footage, ever. Could have been a decent camera

Camera quality is ok, lags a bit sometimes producing low quality footage. Night vision is ok-ish. Event detection would be ok if you could select what portion of footage to record, unfortunately you can't. What this means is that your camera will constantly miss a few seconds of footage as the event is being detected. Most recorded events will lack key moments. But who cares, pay for 24/7 footage and you can record whatever you want right? Wrong. The idiots who designed this "next gen" Nest camera didn't think that you might want to record clips if you purchase the monthly subscription for 24/7 coverage. Thats right, you can scroll through your 24/7 video but will be unable to save anything. What's worse, if you turn on event detection, it does not record 24/7, so you can't even see the missing parts of the clips, despite paying to be able to do so. So you are stuck with poor quality and poorly timed clips, or the inability to save anything. But it gets even worse. The only thing you can use to save footage is the phone app, google home, in 2 minute segments. . So forget your PC. The google home app is the worst cam app I have ever used. You can't save your own clips. You can't scale the time axis and the touch controls are so sensitive its almost impossible to effectively navigate footage. There are no controls to move forward a specific amount of time, like 15 seconds such as the old nest app. Scrolling through footage is a nightmare, not smooth at all. It's like google decided to keep selling 24/7 history coverage while making a camera that is completely inoperable at it, and is not even that good at the only thing it can do: detecting and recording discrete events. I recommend staying away from all new nest cameras until they can fix what has been an absolute disastrous move from the nest app to the google home app. If you want a nest camera, get the older generation. ... show more
