Great book for winter! I love that the main character is a man and his dog. The whole thing is magical and the illustrations capture exactly how it feels at night in winter. The content isn’t wordy but yet you go on a journey in the book. You can feel the time passing, the tiredness setting in. I love that it shows how hard he worked all night helping others be safe. My two girls enjoy seeing the puppy and I like seeing him greeted with the warm cup of coffee at the end of his long night. Beautiful! ... show more

lovely story, lovely pictures. my 22 month old didn't want me to read it to him when it first arrived (because...toddler) so I read it aloud in his general vicinity anyways and by the middle of the book he was in my lap and now asks for it every night. even my husband commented from the other room when I finished that it was a really nice story. very happy with our purchase. ... show more

This is my son’s favorite book and one I don’t actually mind reading to him for the thousandth time. It has a pleasant rhyme scheme and a calming feel without being boring.

Wonderful book. I got it for great nephews and I am sure they will love it. Beautifully written and illustrated. Sure to become a standard much like Good Night Moon. I do wonder, however, why I get a note that it was "handed off directly" . The book was in the mailbox. This is the third time I delivery has been so described. Hmm. ... show more

There are so many Good Night books on the market. This tale of someone toiling at night is a refreshing change (and because it's not trying to be soporific, that actually makes it a better bedtime book with the familiarity of the 'Good Night' books, the comfort of people at work while we're sleeping, keeping things safe, keeping watch, as it were, yet the interest and explanation of non-routine noises and activities to think about instead of gotta sleep, gotta sleep). The rhymes really work syllabically and phonically (rare), and hold so much more poetry than the usual. ("Waves of white curl off the blade..." - nice). There's a tip of the hat to Frost with "Miles to plow before you sleep," and openness sparked by "Bright new day to be discovered" - this is good writing. And the night, the snow, the work of snowplowing: well-illustrated. If the little ones you buy books for live in the snowbelt, I recommend this. ... show more

    • Absolutely adorable book
I like to rotate some seasonal books into our bedtime reading collection and I purchased this one to rotate in after Christmas. I’m so glad I did, my son absolutely loves it. He is 3 and adores all things with wheels. He loves learning about the snowplow and enjoys seeing them out and about on the roads now. For me it’s a bonus that it is by a local NH author. The pictures are lovely and it makes for perfect bedtime reading. ... show more
