  • A new value leader in wireless mic systems!
The media could not be loaded. My first impression of the Godox WEC Kit 2 was a positive one. First off, the charging case that holds the transmitters and receiver, is protectively packaged in a well-engineered semi-hard case, the same type of design that I appreciate in the larger cases that house my Godox AD100 and AD200 flashes. The case provides excellent protection from accidental impact and the elements, but also provides a storage compartment for the supplied “dead cat” windscreens, a TRS to TRS cable for connecting the receiver output to a camera audio input, or portable recorder, and a TRS to TRRS cable for connecting it to a smartphone input. Oh, and there’s a USB-A to USB-C connector to connect to the output of your USB power supply. You can drop the two transmitters and receiver into the charging case and connect a USB-C charger via a connector on the bottom of the case. Integral magnets hold the three components into the charging case even if the case is open and inverted. Though tiny, the charging/storage case houses not only the three wireless components, but a battery bank, as well. So, plugging a charger into the case’s USB-C connector charges the battery bank as well as the two transmitters and the receiver. A digital display on the front of the case indicates the percentage of charge that is on the system. LED indicators are also provided on each component to indicate when the battery power has dropped to 10% on each transmitter and the receiver. USB-C connectors are also present on each transmitter and the receiver, should you ever choose to charge them outside the case, and these even allow an external power supply to power a WEC component while it is in use. Pairing is performed through the case connections, so that the transmitters are paired to the receiver when they are removed from the case. Pairing may also be accomplished via a pairing button on the edge of each transmitter. The WEC Kit 2 components are very lightweight, and very small. One of the design elements that makes the small size possible is the use of buttons and LEDs that serve more than one function. Buttons perform a different function when given a long press vs a short one, for example. And the LEDs change color for different indications or show a status via blinking or steady output. This may require a bit of a learning curve, but it is not all that confusing after using the system for a while. One high-end feature that I was surprised to find in such a small and affordable wireless system is the noise reduction that may be switched on or off at each transmitter. This is a quite effective noise gate that suppresses a fair amount of background noise, such as from fans in video lights or even room reverberation. Most importantly, the audio quality of the system is excellent, at least in the voice range, which is all I have tested, with sound quality that compares favorably to wireless and wired lav systems I’ve used that cost many times the price of this Godox system. My testing of the transmitter/receiver range didn’t work out to the distance specified, but I’m very used to that with wireless mic systems I’ve used for many years. The actual range far surpasses anything I ever need in my audio for video applications. OK, so what is not included in this very affordable system? The most obvious feature not on this system would be jacks to accommodate an external lavalier microphone. Given the transmitter’s small size, I suspect that most content creators will have no problem with this, as a large percentage of them are not using that function on systems that offer it. This system also does not include internal recording, as some higher-priced systems do. Again, this is offset, for many users at least, by the small size and low cost. In real-world testing, one thing I should mention that impressed me was how effective the windscreens are, how easy they are to put on the mic and, yet, how well they stay on. Those are three benefits that I can’t say have all existed in some other wireless systems I’ve used. The spring clips on the transmitters work well to hold the mic/transmitter firmly in place on each shirt that I’ve tested them on. My favorite position is usually mounting the transmitter under the edge of my shirt, with the clip on the outside. Yeah, the white print is not ideal on camera, but most viewers won’t notice it, and a small piece of black gaffer tape easily obscures the advertising, if it is a problem. The receiver clip fits perfectly in the hot shoe of my camera or the cold shoe on a camera cage. Combining ease of use, small size, light weight, great audio quality and an amazingly low purchase price, the Godox WEC Kit 2 is a new value leader, ready for professional use, yet affordable for all of us. ... show more

  • Excellent Value
I was able to test this vs the Rode Go II and it sounded pretty close. For 3X less it’s an incredible value. I wish all companies would adopt the Air Pod style charging system it comes with. It claims 200m distance. I tested it up to 100m and as long as there aren’t obstacles in between the transmitter and receiver it did well. Build quality was fantastic. Incredibly light weight. The wind screens worked well in high winds. If you’re on a budget and you want a ton of features and intelligibility, I definitely recommend it. ... show more

  • This is a fun little set of wireless lavs.
This is a fun little set of wireless lavs. They are clearly not the best quality but they aren't bad for the price either... at least for Youtube videos. if you are running an indy project and sending a camera into the field to grab interviews this could be a good tool to have. Hiding them might be tricky but I don't know if you would use them for anything where you absolutely had to hide them. I'm also not sure how well they will deal with interference in a saturated area. The noise cancellation on each lav is pretty good. I haven't tested the included wind screens but I wouldn't expect them to handle too hard of a wind. Personally I'm thinking of fun ways to use them for Sound FX. I'm always looking for decent small mics to put in harms way... as long as they aren't that expensive. I'm curious to see where I can throw these and still get a signal back. For 100 bucks it's no great pain if they get destroyed. I do wish it had replaceable batteries. I'm not a fan of these single life "E Waste" devices that need to be tossed/recycled when the battery or charge port dies. Replaceable batteries would make this 4 stars But for now it gets 3. In my world 3 is solid. 4 is good. 5 is the rare great item but few items are great. I don't even know if you could put replaceable batteries in this device But I wish they could. ... show more

  • a step up in professionalism
before i purchased the godox lavaliers, i was using a boom mic either suspended on a boom arm or laying on a table. it worked, but was difficult to get balanced audio between two people talking. this product saves the day. the audio quality is as good as expected. much better than the on-camera mic and more convenient than using a shotgun mic. the compact carrying case makes it easy to store in my camera bag. the case itself is also a battery to keep things charged when stored away, just like how bluetooth earbuds charge. i also love that both transmitters and the receiver has a usb-c port, so if i needed to use them for a longer period of time, i can easily plug them into a tiny power bank for extended use. ... show more

  • Not wireless! Needs wires to work.
Short version: To use this with your phone, you have to use one of the included cables ... also known as wires. So it's not wireless. The USB-C connection stated in the ad is strictly for charging the transmitter, not connecting it to a phone. There are a ton of wireless lavalier mics that are wireless and sell for a fraction of the price of this one, so I can't recommend this set if you're looking for an easy (and wireless) way to get audio into your phone. Here's the longer version: While transmitter and receiver do communicate with each other wirelessly, you have to use a wire to connect it to your camera or phone. I was initially really impressed with this kit when I pulled it out of the box. It has a really nice carrying case, and inside there's a charger case that's almost like an oversized Apple Air Pods charging case. The transmitter and two receivers fit nicely inside, and in the main case there are two wind screens and three WIRES. The ad says it operates with USB-C connector. Nope. It has to be wired. This may be great for someone willing to carry a camera kit around, but if you're looking to travel light (and wireless), you may find yourself as disappointed as I am. Wireless concerns aside, I'm not convinced this set is the best value out there. ... show more
