  • Nice motherboard, be careful with water cooling install.
Installed the motherboard in a Corsair 4000 airflow case. The motherboard installed easily into the case, issue came with installing the radiator in the top of the case. If you're mounting the radiator in the top, you'll have issues reaching the CPU fan connection as well as the 12v 2x2 and 2x4 connectors. Flashing to the latest BIOS was simple stupid with the Q-Flash function, configuring the fan curves per the water cooler manufacturer was also beyond simple. ... show more

  • Defective Hardware - Poor Diagnostics - Locked Down BIOS
I've never had more trouble with a motherboard in my 20+ years of working in technology. I literally spent a full day troubleshooting this chore of a pile of silicon and copper. After a day of troubleshooting it turns out the device was defective (confirmed by Gigabyte support). Before I get to defect(s), here is a helpful tip: plan on installing a fresh OS on a new drive. The BIOS prevents legacy boot. You can reenable legacy boot in the BIOS to at least get your old disks to show up but you won't be able to boot from them. You will get a blank screen with a blinking cursor as Windows fails to load with the new hardware. That's not unusual... just something to be mindful of. Some BIOS changes won't take effect with this board until you hard reset it. Unplug and leave it for a bit if you're planning to change certain settings. The LAN adapter in the board I received was bad. The onboard VGA port might also be bad which was the first issue I encountered. VGA light red on the board. This made initial troubleshooting of video card issues a pain. Once past that it was time to bang my head against the wall on the LAN adapter. Install OS and drivers but no ethernet adapter recognized. Repeat and scream into pillow. Support was prompt in verifying that the adapter was bad but now I'll spend more of my time taking this board out, shipping it back, and installing the new board. QA on this model must be terrible because there are similar reports elsewhere. Nice things to say about the motherboard... it seems mostly well laid out. RAM and two rows of transistors are a little close to the CPU so watch your fan and heatsink. I went with the Noctua fan which keeps tight to the footprint of the CPU. The 2x2 and 2x4 power connectors at the top of the board are a long reach from where your PSU is probably positioned. A 12" cable is probably not long enough so you may want to pick up an extension if you plan to do any cable management. ... show more

  • Ram ports 3,4 did not work!
Disappointment. After 5 hours of clean installation- meaning lots of wire management, come to find the motherboard is unusable as the ram ports of 3 and 4 do not work!!!! For those that do not know, you can use a 1/3 OR a 2/4 slotting together, but you cannot use a 1/2 together, this means this mobo is UNUSABLE unless paying more for a single stick of ram and having paid full price for a defective product. Bought a 2nd set of ram sticks and extra troubleshooting to be sure. This is a lot of lost time as mobo is first thing installed. Now I'll have to undo the entire thing, wait many days for another to come in, and redo the entire process. Hoping the next one will not have the same issue. ... show more
