Description

The high fidelity Omnidirectional microphone capsule is in a factory assembled housing with a durable, removable alligator clip with a black finish. - This mic is designed specifically for use with the “mic input” jack that provides "plug-in power" having voltage output from between 1.5 to 10 volts. The cable is 6 feet long. Please NOTE the following for recorder compatibility. These mics and all others like it are not compatible with mixers and most cameras, smartphones and recorders that do not have "plug in power." The phantom power from mixers will fry the mic elements. The max voltage is 10 volts. Do not use XLR or 1/4 input jacks whatsoever as they provide phantom power that is more than 10 volts and will damage the mics. Also most cameras and smart phones are not compatible because they are not made for good quality audio.

  • Great mic, read how to use it.
It tool me many tries and years to finally get what I wanted out of this mic. Does it record to a dlsr camera yes, (caution) "the mic need a little power for it to work, so for example if you plug it into a mixer with no phantom power it will not work. As the instructions say, don't hook up to mixer with phantom power it will destroy your mic." With that said, it's a hit or miss when it would work well, or not. I would prefer if the 3.5mm connection was just straight now the L shape. When connecting to a camera, because of it body shape you don't always get a good clean connection thus maybe only left channel picked up, or very buzzy sound. When it connects good yes its great, but if the connect wiggles just a little all hope fir your audio is gone. However the saving grace is to buy the Rode VXLR PRO. it has a built It Transformer. Meaning, with the Rode VXLR PRO you can use phantom power from a mixer to power the mic and it won't blow it up. Finally I can use a lave mic with my mixer or portable audio interface on the go anywhere with the giant squid, the audio from it is insane! ... show more

  • Very Good Value
I purchased the Giant Squid lavalier Microphone to use with my DJI wireless microphone. After reading & watching multiple reviews of the DJI, many users found significant interference when using a lavalier mic. So far, the Giant Squid produces no interference, or odd audio artifact. The audio quality has been excellent and the foam wind-muff has done a good job of cutting out wind noise. I wished that Giant Squid had included a second foam wind-muff with the microphone as the one provided comes off very easily, and I’m afraid it will end up coming off at the most inconvenient time. I guess a little super glue would fix the issue. It’s not the most expensive mic, nor is the least expensive. From my testing, it’s proven to be a pretty good value. The only reason for the four star review is for the lack of a second wind-muff, and ease at which the muff comes off the mic. ... show more

  • Simply amazing and helped me in a tough bind.
I’m using the microphone with the Synco TS UHF system due to the Scynco stock mics being atrocious for sound. I had just finished two interviews using a Sony lavalier mic and much to my disappointment was only better than the Synco mics due to being able to EQ out the flaws which was impossible with the Syncos. The last interview was mine. I was on a time crunch because of work and on my way home I got notification that the Giant Squid was delivered. Already on the low key frustrated side I figured it’s been a crap show anyway why not test the Giant Squid and fix it as well if I have another issue. TO MY SURPRISE! There was very little to zero clips in the audio after a faster set up than all the other previous mics. I have the biggest voice of everyone doing the interviews so I was very concerned with how my audio would sound. If I would have EQ’d the audio picked up by this mic, it would have been to degrade the sound to match the Sony, but I wouldn’t have been able to degrade it to match the Syncos without bringing the levels all the way up passed clipping. I have since ordered two more Giant Squids and will keep a surplus to prevent not having one if something happens on set to the currently used Squids. This mic is amazing and pics up everything that is needed with the Synco TS UHF wireless set up. I can’t wait to EQ up instead of to degrade in the next videos next week. ... show more

  • Do NOT use with Rode Wireless systems
I really hoped this mic would work for all the applications I needed. It does fine with my Sound Devices recorders, HOWEVER, not at all with both my Rode Wireless systems (Newshooter and Wireless Go). Consider that the Rode systems aren’t the nicest on the market, however this mic still shouldn’t have the issue I’m about to describe. I first tried the mic with the Newshooter Kit and when I plugged it in, I got some horrible RFI. I found out that as I got the mic closer to the receiver, the RFI got worse. However, the RFI was always there, even at a good distance. I just shelved the mic and hadn’t gotten until now after just purchasing the Wireless Go. The RFI was happening like crazy again. When I just used the built-in mic on the Wireless Go... nothing. As soon as I plugged in the Giant Squid, the RFI was soo bad it was unusable. When I got the mic close to the receiver, it was unbearable to listen to. Not wanting to just blame the mic, I did what I should have done before. I tested three other lav from Shure and Sennheiser. No RFI on the other lavs. So... looks like the Giant Squid is a loser for wireless systems, at least the two Rodes I tested it on. Now, I could buy some ferrite to put on the cable and see it that solves the problem, but honestly, this is a problem that probably shouldn’t exist... however, $40 mic vs $130+ mics. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting what you pay for. ... show more

  • Great mic
I tried ever possible combination in order to get a lav mic to work with my iPhone 6s+... the headphone jack needs a trrs and not just a trs, so I got a trrs adaptor... the lav mic I had still didn’t work after trying 2 different versions of this adaptor... I tried using a lightening to 3.5mm adaptor to go with the lav mic I had... didn’t work. At this point I’m getting frustrated. Finally I decided it was my $130 sennheiser lav mic that was the problem. I bought this $50 lav mic and hooked it up to my iPhone 6s+ with a trrs adaptor and it worked perfectly. Turns it there is something specific that the sennheiser lav mic just doesn’t like about being used with trrs adaptors to iPhones. Funny enough, I can use that exact sennheiser lav mic directly into my canon 60d (it came with a wireless kit for use with these types of cameras) and the sennheiser lav mic works just fine. So... this mic worked great and has more than adequate audio quality for the price. 6ish ft of wire is a plus as well... thanks to the guy on YouTube who recommeneddd this lav mic (likely not knowing he was solving 2 problems in 1). ... show more
