Just completed a new home earlier in 2023 that came with Genie garage door openers. One garage door opens to the back yard and is inconveniently far from the main bank of opener buttons, so I researched how to add a second switch next to the door itself and it couldn't be simpler! First, you'll definitely need one of these switches and NOT a doorbell switch. These are momentary switches that click, making it impossible to press and hold the button down and complete the circuit for a long period of time like you can with a doorbell button. You'll also need a run of small-gauge wire (like 20AWG but no heavier than 18). Connect the opposite end of the wire to the opener itself, connecting to the same terminals as the main button, so now you'll have TWO wires coming from the button terminals on the motor: one to the main switch and the other to this new, secondary switch (wherever you decide to put it). Took me about 30 minutes to install with the bulk of the time making my wire runs look pretty. Now, both switches open/pause/close the garage door just as you'd expect. Even better, when you flip the lockout switch on the main opener switch, it also disables the secondary switch! A little more expensive than a regular doorbell button, yes, but worth every penny! Going to install another one on my main garage door now because it's just way too convenient having a second button right next to the door itself! ... show more

This thing is the only opener button I could find that worked with my genie 404. Tried three other buttons that had thousands of positive reviews and that claimed they were universal. This one works! Taking one star away because it’s ugly and the button isn’t lit. :)

    • Easy to install, replaced my broken one
I've had a Genie Aladdin garage door opener for 13 years. The switch for one door has always been a little stubborn...pressing on the button didn't feel smooth and many times had to be pressed a few times before the door would respond. It's gotten worse over the years, so finally bought this universal non-lit one. My switch for the other door is lit, and while I could've gotten a lit one, I wasn't 100% sure if my system is a Series II (that's the only lit option for sale). Kept it simple. The switch installed easily. Just disconnected the corresponding wires from the old one and connected to this new switch. It's the same size, so was able to use the exact same screw holes. Fit perfectly. Don't love the brown color...mine was not beige like the picture, but, I don't care about that in my garage. Works smoothly now. No finger strain or stress trying to open the door! Switch and two screws are the only items in the box. No wires or instructions included. Looked up instructions online to make sure I understood which wires went where. ... show more

I wanted to wire in an extra open/close button and had a spare door bell thinking that would be the same thing but nope, I couldn't use the doorbell in conjunction with the wall console due to the lighted button. Only one would work at a time. I found this and say only one person trying to do what I was doing so I gave this a try and yep, this worked. Note you only get the button, you will need to buy your own wire separately. I added this into the same terminal as the existing button and now both work as expected! ... show more
