    • Uh... Subaru CVT relearn?

There has been a flurry of excitement online about how this tool can be used for a Subaru CVT relearn. I bought it, and that isn't apparently possible on a 2014 Outback, a 2015 Forester, or a 2016 Legacy sedan. I haven't been able to find more specific-year/model info online, nor the Patreon page for the individual who announced the capability. I can see the transmission module, and can see a positive indication of transmission learn status, but just can't get to the data purge and re-learn. I can see more transmission modules on the Legacy than the Outback, which indicates the Gearwrench sees what is available to it. I put the app on a large Samsung tablet, and for the systems it does work with, it's fine and has an easy interface. I've now got five OBD II scanners. I believe I'll have to spring for a $600 scanner. ... show more

Found one that works on all my vehicles. 16 Audi Q5, 12 Cadillac SRX & 06 Lexus 400h. I hate to say it out of all (4+) I ordered & tried this is the only one that worked. Yes, I could have paid 3+ times more for one but why. Hate it for Amazon and their merchants but what it is, is what it is. I therefore HIGHLY recommend the GearWrench GWSMARTBT!!!! I like it but is not as easy to use compared to a dedicated handheld scanner that doesn't use a phone. I don't like that I have to type the VIN because most of the times it will not find it. Was not able to read ABS codes on my 97 Acura Integra GSR but that could be the car is too old. You will have to download the diagnostics files specific to your car or special features before use. Also, linking the phone to the tool via bluetooth was a pain. I guess I will get used to the user interface after I use it more. I am used to being a lot faster with the other type of scanners. The live data on this is nice. ... show more

I haven't used this device yet for anything but the most minor diagnostics, but so far I like the interface and it seems pretty powerful. I might eventually give it 4 stars, but I am stuck on 3 because I had a terrible time getting it to connect with Bluetooth. I have seen in other reviews that some are having the same issue. The instructions are very basic, which would be fine if it just worked, but if it doesn't, there isn't anything to fall back on. After hours of messing with it, installing, uninstalling, etc, I finally figured it out. I am using Android devices, a Samsung phone and a Google Pixel tablet. I could pair the GW no problem to Bluetooth, but it would never actually connect. Long story short, I finally thought to go into the actual app settings for the GWSMARTBT app after focusing on the Bluetooth stuff. In the app settings, then "app permissions", I turned on "enable nearby devices". It instantly hooked up and now works fine. There is no mention of this in any instructions. Hopefully, this info helps others. Now that I'm over this initial frustration, maybe I'll actually like using the tool. Stay tuned... ... show more

I’ve used this on 2 differ vehicles so far to clear and diagnose trouble codes. Worked really well, had to enter 1 vin manually and 1 automatic both worked as it should.
